My kids started back to school today…hence no new and exciting post. We were just to busy this weekend trying to squeeze out every last drop of summer. I always have mixed emotions on the first day of school. I always feel somewhat sad and sentimental. It really hits home how quickly they grow up! I always shed a few little tears and then turn to look on the bright side…my house can finally get the organization and deep cleaning it so badly needs after summer. And it actually stays clean…for a few hours anyways!
I always have homemade cookies for the kids to come home too and plan a nice back to school dinner for that evening. What do you do to make your kids feel special on their first day back to school?

My little guy started pre-K last week. I put a little love note in his lunch box – let him pick what he wanted to eat (cookies, of course) and let him pick dinner.
And I made him a cake yesterday to celebrate his first week :)
Aw, what a great idea!!
Amen to that. My kids started school today too. It's so bittersweet! I have a long list of closets, and cupboards, and drawers…oh yeah and rooms, to be organized. ;) But first things first, I have a nice big batch of snickerdoodles to make.
Amy, you are such an awesome mom!
What a great idea!!! I definitely love the cookies after school idea! I'm going to borrow this one for sure!k
Have a great week!
my kids are both in full day school this year (no more pick up at noon crap) and i started a new tradition…i treated myself to a massage! it was perfect!
oh-you mean traditions for my KIDS! i made them a bisquick coffee cake (you know the one-with brown sugary goodness all over the top!). they love it!
Those cookies look TOO good- recipe? (please..)
I made homemade blueberry muffins and tonight we are going to eat chocolate chip pancakes.
Well, I actually just blogged about it. You can check it out if you'd like. :) We have a fancy back to school dinner the night before.

Oh my! I need that cookie recipe please!!!
I lived in Germany for several years as a kid. My Mom always made us kindercones for the first day of school. Basically it's a big cone hat (dunce hat) stuffed with goodies.
I always took first day of school photos. One of the things my kids remember most about school was that when they came home they smelled fresh baked goods. I tried to always bake just before they came home.
Well, I do not have children of my own yet. But, growing up we had a special first day tradition that I cannot wait to continue with my own children someday. My sisters and I each had our own Peter Rabbit china place settings. The only time we ever used them was on the first day of school. We would have a special breakfast as a family using our special china. We did this from kindergarten through high school!
