Need another Valentine’s Day craft? How about this Framed Heart?
I took a peice of 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper I picked up recently from Robert’s Craft and decided to add some more tissue rosettes and have them form a heart.
I’ll be the first to admit that I went a little crazy making tissue paper rosettes over the last couple of weeks. But, that gave me the opportunity to work on them while watching some movies that we had been wanting to see.
I just started out by free handing a heart {in pencil} on the piece of scrap book paper. Then simply glued the red tissue rosettes around the heart outline and placed them as close together as possible.
I had originally envisioned Mod Podging the finished paper onto a wood square {painted black} measuring 13 x 13 inches. But when I tried it out, I wasn’t as happy with it. So I decided to place a frame around it.
Since I didn’t have any 12 inch x 12 inch frames laying around, I decided to make my own.
I just took an 11 x 14 inch frame I had laying around. So I simply cut the taller {14 inch} end of the frame, right before the 90 degree angle and the bottom horizontal wood.
Then I removed a couple of inches from the length off the newly cut frame. Does that make sense?
So my new frame measured 11 x 11 inches. Then I took a peice of beadboard that I had left-over from another project and cut out a 11 x 11 section.
Then I glued the frame onto the beadboard background with painter’s caulk and held it into place with some clamps. I went a little crazy with the clamps…LOL! But the frame was a little warped and wasn’t laying as flat as I would like…so I forced it into the position I wanted it to stay. Worked like a charm. I also filled in the cracks on the front of the frame with putty where I had shortened the frame length.
Then when it had dried {I waited 24 hours} I sanded down any rough edges.
Then simply painted the frame black again. After allowing the paint to dry, I came back and roughed up the paint a bit to give the frame some character.
Now that my frame was ready to go, I took my heart paper and cut down the edges so that it would be able to fit perfectly inside the frame and lay flat. And that’s it! Do you like it? I really like the addition of the frame around the heart and think it turned out better than if I had just placed it onto a flat black peice of wood. This gives is a lot more depth and dimension!
The great thing is that now when Valentine’s Day is over, I can pull out the heart and replace it with something for the next Holiday. Pretty and versatile at the same time!

I love this. I tried to make some tissue paper rosettes last night. They came out ok but I think I just need to work on my technique a bit. they were a little tight!! I am going to put the rosettes on a frame for my daughter :) if I can get them to look like yours lol. great job on this.

Love this & want to copy, but did you glue your heart paper down onto the bead board? That's what it sounded like you did, but then it sounded like it was removable, so now I confused.
Thanks everyone. Those that rolled them too tight…keep practicing. You should have seen my first attempts. Why do you think I went to so crazy making them? HeHe!
@Mariah–I will have to read through the post again and see where the confusion was and fix it. I did NOT glue the paper in. That way it is removeable. It just sits in the frame and slides between the frame and the backboard.
I have so enjoyed the creativity of all these tissue rose projects! This one is no different! I absolutely LOVE it! Thank you for sharing! I think this weekend I will be elbow deep in Valentine's projects!
