Entertaining the kids on Thanksgiving morning while preparing for your feast can be challenging. Why not let them entertain themselves with this fun Thanksgiving Game?
THANKSGIVING GAMES
Waiting for the Thanksgiving Food to cook can leave us wondering what do to and how to entertain the kids. Here is a great Thanksgiving game for you and your family to play around your Thanksgiving table before and after the meal. Perfect for adults and kids alike.
HOW MANY PLAYERS CAN PLAY?
This game can have as many players as you need. You will just need 6 clothes pins for each player. Or you can make a whole bunch of clothespins and put them in a pile in the middle. And use them until they run out.
HOW TO MAKE WILD TURKEY FEATHERS GAME
Follow this info to create the game pieces.
- Paint the clothes pins in some fun colors. Each player will need 6 clothes pins, I painted a layer of glitter over the regular paint colors to give the turkey tail feathers some pizazz!
- Print out the free thanksgiving game printable (link found below) onto some cardstock or regular paper.
- Cut out your turkey body and then glue them onto some chipboard to make the game cards strong so you can use them every year.
- Seal the top and sides with a layer or two of Mod Lodge (I love Matte finish) so that they aren’t easily ruined by lots of use and little fingers. This will also keep the game from being ruined by the constant addition of the turkey body feathers.
HOW TO PLAY TURKEY FEATHERS THANKSGIVING GAME
The premise of the game is fairly simple. Simple enough that even the youngest kids can play.
GAME SUPPLIES:
- CLOTHESPINS to represent natural turkey feathers
- PAINT for the turkey feathers
- PAINT BRUSH
- GLITTER (OPTIONAL)
- CARDSTOCK for the game card to print on
- PRINTER
- MOD PODGE to glue the printed download to the chipboard
- CHIPBOARD to make a sturdy game card
DIRECTIONS:
- Each player takes a turkey card and gets 6 clothes pins or…Turkey Feathers.
- Each player takes turns rolling once dice. Then you simply put a feather on the number that you rolled. If you roll a number you already have a feather on, then your turn is over.
- First person to get all the feathers on their turkey wins.
- Pretty simple right? As I am typing this, I realized it might be fun to actually write some of the things you are thankful for on the turkey feathers themselves to help your little ones to be thinking of them while they are playing the game. It would add a little more meaning to the game as well.
FREE THANKSGIVING PRINTABLE
You will also need to print a card for each player. The card is a drawing of the bird’s body that will be each game card. You can find the free download for the game board here:

Oh how fun… you could even make a grown up version. See who can collect the most “feathers” from people who say words like turkey, pie, stuffing or football. Whoever collects the most feather by the end of the gathering gets a prize! Love this!!

thank you so much for sharing this idea! I am a room mom this year and needed a simple game for my son’s second grade class for Thanksgiving. This game was my solution! Since I was printing out more than 3 I just whited out some of the numbers and added different # combos. I used 2 dice instead of one. The kids loved the game (I did it this morning) Thanks for sharing so many great ideas on your site…I really appreciate the time you have put into things :)

Boy I love all the idaes that you all come up with on here. This game could be used for all of the holidays just by switching the turkey out for santa, reindeer, pumpkins, easter bunny etc you get where I’m going….I love these ideas because my neice is a Pre-K-Kindergarden Teacher and she could easily use this in her calss room as well
just by getting the children to learn their numbers and ABCs, and the clip board could chane to Cookie Monster, Scooby Doo, etc etc. Boy I’m on a roll for ideas. Thanks again for the great ideas that you all think of. May you all have a safe and Happy Thankgiving Day…..
Jennie says

We made these a couple days ago and my kids have been playing the game everyday! They are so excited to play with their cousins at thanksgiving dinner. Thank you!
Lisa says
I have 7 sons ages 20 to 31, we played this game on Thanksgiving, we played for prizes, the first two winners got a can of cashews and the rest got Hershey bars. It got to be pretty competitive ’cause they all wanted those cashews. We were laughing our heads off. My original plan was to have each person say something they were thankful for whenever they pinned a “feather” on, but we were having so much fun I forgot that part, lol. Thanks for the great idea!

Andrea says
I did this, but I had my students cut and make construction paper feathers. On each feather they wrote something that they were thankful for. Then they glued or attached the feathers to a paper clip. It worked out nice, the kids enjoyed the game.
Helen says
Thanks so much! I will be doing this game with my three kids (ages 3-8) this Thanksgiving!
Susan says
I played this with the kids at Thanksgiving ages 3 to 10. It was a hit. We had limited resources so we just colored the clothespins with the crayons on hand and they were happy with that using their own creativity with colors and designs. My 3 almost 4 year old is into the games played with dice right now, like Build a Snowman, etc. so this fit right in.
Amy says
I am so happy to hear that! And yes…kids love being able to help create it. The crayon idea was perfect!!
Pam says
Love the Turkey Feather Game. Double duty with this one, the game pieces will be a craft project for my 9 year old granddaughter while on Thanksgiving vacation and then play the game with family on Thanksgiving Day.
Tina says
I played this with my ADULT children and their spouses at Thanksgiving last year… altered the game with one rule if you rolled a number you already rolled your feather came back off. This game lasted a long time with them getting down to only needing one feather and then having bald turkeys again. It was a lot of laughs with a winner in about 40 minutes, obviously that is luck of the roll but it has been requested again for the family and the grandchildren can play this one as well. I laminated my turkeys for years of enjoyment.

Natalie- Thank you.
Things can totally get crazy Thanksgiving morning, so I am looking forward to having them play this game! It will keep us all happy!
Natalie- It is a fun game to play!
I am adding questions for my private music students. One set of 6 questions for learning reinforcement at all levels, and then they can also use it for 6 things they’re thankful for. Thank YOU for a game that’s one-size-fits-all, even the earliest beginner!
Robin- Glad this game will work for your students. So fun!
This is so fun, I know my nieces will love this so much!
Katie- I hope they love it as much as my kids do!
