You guys know how much I enjoy taking pictures with my DSLR camera. I use it almost everyday to capture the projects I am working on and to capture the little moments of our daily family life. It is one of my favorite pieces of technology that we have today.
I feel like time is slipping away from me as I look back through our older family pictures and see just how quickly my kids are growing up. Before I know it they will all be moving out and starting on their own life adventures. I want to enjoy and capture as many of the memories that I can.
I also want to be sure I can enjoy those moments with my family too and there are a few things we can do to make sure that we live long enough to be able to do so. There are some things you can do to prevent this…There are certain risk factors associated with certain hereditary cancers such as Colon Cancer.
Disclosure–This is a sponsored post written by The Idea Room on behalf of TodaysMama.com, Just Ask and Myriad Genetics. However, all opinions and statements are mine. Entrants must be U.S. residents and 18 years or older to participate. Giveaway closes on April 6th, 2013. One winner will be chosen at random and will have 48 hours to claim the camera before a new winner is chosen.
To find out if you are at a higher risk for Colon Cancer, simply take this super quick quiz:
Hereditary Risk for Colon Cancer Quiz
If you find out that you are at a higher risk, you can get a Colonoscopy which can rule out or catch a silent growing Cancer and save your life giving your more precious time with your family and loved ones.
In fact there is also a genetic test that can determine if you carry any of the Colon Cancer related genes. Which you can then use the results of that test to map out a prevention plan for you with a Genetic Counselor. These Cancers tend to run in families so be sure to encourage your family members and loved ones to be screened as well.
Why not take a few moments out of your life towards the prevention of a Deadly Cancer that could give you a lifetime more of “camera-worthy” moments with your loved ones.
And to encourage you to get checked and find out if you are at a higher risk for Colon Cancer by taking the quiz, I am partnering with Myriad Genetics and TodaysMama.com to get the word out about preventing Colon Cancer. We would love to give one Idea Room Reader their very own Canon Camera for capturing your favorite (and maybe not so favorite) moments.

Does it make you nervous to have the camera in the boat? I just have a point and shoot so don’t worry about a little water but I think I would with a nice camera. (2nd attempt to comment as first one seemed to disappear – please delete if it didn’t.)

I love that this quiz will encourage people to be tested based on heredity. My family has no history of colon/rectal cancer but I’ve had a scare with each. I didn’t listen to my body the first time I had symptoms but because of the pain with the second set of symptoms I did and found I had a large rectal mass. This lead to yearly testing and two years later had a colon mass discovered. I was only 48 the first time and not due for a colonoscopy. My children & siblings now have to be tested ten years younger than the age I was the first time it was discovered (Yes, there was much grumbling about having to do this at 38) so my advice would be to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. This is so important, you know your own body.

Awesome! I love supporting these contests that allow me to spread the word about cancer awareness. As a medical student I know my risks, but I love that this helps to get people to take quizzed and become educated about their health. I would love to have a new camera, I have lots to celebrate coming up and what an awesome prize!!! Thanks again for the great contest.

Thank you for the giveaway and please enter me. I did post on my facebook wall and twitter and I did take the quiz only through the google site. Lynch site link is still not working because of the address is missing an “e” in hereditary.
This is a great cause and thank you for the post to remind me to remind my friends!
