Hey there Idea Room readers! I’m so happy to be hanging out with you today, I am Stephanie from Crafting in the Rain, and I have a little Fourth of July Sign to share with you, and you still have time to make one before the holiday! My favorite part of this project is that I’ll show you how to make foil letters without an actual foil machine or laminator.
Here’s your supply list:
(*affiliate links for where you can buy some of these items)
wood board (mine is 10×12 1/4 inch thick plywood)
stain
white paint
United States cut out of vinyl (any color)
red vinyl
sticker paper
Cricut
blue foil
Start by staining the piece of wood and letting it dry. Cut the United States shape out of vinyl (you can get the Cricut file for it here). Center the shape on the wood and press down the edges really well.
Paint the board white, dragging the brush away from the vinyl (if you brush towards the vinyl you could push extra paint under the edges.)
Peel up the vinyl and let the paint dry.
Cut “SWEET LAND OF” out of red vinyl. Cut “Liberty” out of the sticker paper and make sure the “Liberty” is MIRRORED. (Cricut design space files here, or design your own)
Take the word “Liberty” off the sticker backing and press it down as evenly as possible onto the back side of a foil sheet. Rub all over the sticker, then peel off the foil sheet.
Then you just have to apply the vinyl to the top of the sign and glue the foil word to the bottom.
If you make something like this I’d love for you to post it on Instagram and tag me @steph_crafting_rain so I can see it! Have fun summer crafting!
