Thanksgiving Hostess Gift

Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year?  If not, I have a simple and easy Thanksgiving Hostess Gift for you.  This is definitely not a NEW idea…but simply a twist on an old standby gift…but in a pretty package.

Thanksgiving-hostess-gift-3.png

Now, I am personally not a drinker…but we do like a good sparkling cider drink.  Either way, you can wrap up the bottled beverage of your choice and gift it to your Thanksgiving Hostess.

thanksgiving-hostess-gift-5.png

This wine bottle gift bag could NOT be any simpler to make.  As I have shared with you before…I am not the best seamstress in the world.  But…I can sew a straight line.  If you can sew a straight line…or if you are willing to learn how to sew a straight line, this is a project you CAN do!

thanksgiving-hostess-gift-2.png

I took a canvas paint drop cloth (weird…I know)…but I had some left over from these earlier projects…Thanksgiving Table Linens, Monogrammed Table Runner and an upcoming project for Lowe’s (which I can’t post just yet).  Canvas Drop Cloths are really inexpensive too…or you can pick up some linen (or the fabric of your choice) at your local fabric store.

thanksgiving-hostess-gift-4.png

Monogrammed Wine Gift Bag Instructions:

1.  Cut a piece of fabric that measures 12.5 inches (for the bottle height) x 11 inches (for the bottle width).

*If your bottle is wider than normal you will need to add some inches to the width.

2.  Fold the material in half with the wrong side of the fabric out.

3.  Sew 1/4 inch seam along the bottom and the side of the bag.  Be sure to backstitch at each end and the corner to reinforce the seams.

4.  Turn the bag inside out.  Fold down the top of the bag 1/4 inch and pin so that the raw edge is inside the top of the bag.

5.  Sew along the folded edge around the entire top of the bag.  This will give you a nice finished edge.

*If you want it extra nice…roll the edge twice and iron before sewing.

6.  Iron the bag…which of course I clearly did not do…

7.  Print out a Monogram Letter of your choice.  To access the free Monogram Letters click the link below:

*If you are not a fan of The Idea Room on Facebook, you will need to click like first and become a fan. After you become a fan you will need to click on “Get your free gift” in the upper right hand corner of the Idea Room FB page and then click on “Previous Downloads”.

{Monogrammed Bottle Gift Bag Letters}

thanksgiving-gift-tags.png

8.  Cut out the stencil.  If you want a black circle like I have (or another color) you will need to cut out the black area.  Tape your stencil in place.  Stencil your black paint onto the bag.  I stenciled mine about 4-5 inches from the bottom of the bag.

OR…use the stencil with some tracing paper to trace it onto the bag and then hand paint the monogram onto the bottle gift bag.

*Try measuring where you want the stencil by putting the bottle in the bag first to see where it will fall.

thanksgiving-hostess-gift-1.png

Now you have a beautiful gift bag for your Thanksgiving gift.

And…I am also sharing these Thanksgiving Gift Tags.  Simply print them out and add a little bit of glitter to the wreath.  You can also use these gift tags with ANY Thanksgiving Gift you might be giving out this Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Sign | Thanksgiving Printable

Last month I shared with you a Fall Sign that I made for Thanksgiving and my fall décor.  I love it so much, and love that it makes me sing and think about one of my all time favorite hyms…”Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”  I had one small wall in my office/craft room that was still empty and I was having a hard time deciding what to put there…till now.

come-thou-fount

I wanted to have a permanent reminder of my favorite song YEAR ROUND rather than just around Thanksgiving.  I like the way it helps to remind me and put things into perspective.

wood-sign

I simply took a left-over piece of wood from one of our past projects and sanded it to a nice smooth finish.  I spray painted it white.  When it was dry I cut out a stencil on my Silhouette that I designed and then placed it onto the board.

Thanksgiving-quotes

Then I simply made sure to cover the entire board except for the letters that I wanted yellow.  I wanted the sign to be really simple, clean and fresh looking.

thanksgiving-decorations

My board is 24 inches in length but as you can see you could shorten yours a bit if you don’t like the length.  I personally like it this long with the quote only taking up a small portion of the board.

And…of course I want to share it with you.  So I am sharing the stencil with you so that you can make your own Thanksgiving Sign.  I also quickly turned the stencil into a Thanksgiving Printable for those of you who might just want to print something out and stick it in a picture frame.

Monster Mints and 12 Free Halloween Printables

It’s time once again for another monthly Printable Blog Hop. If you are new here, every month 11 other bloggers and I join together to bring you a 12 themed FREE Printables for your use.  This month we are sharing our FREE Halloween Printables.

halloween-ideas

Today I am sharing with you a fun Halloween Treat and Gift idea.  I love coming up with little creative gifts that you can give to friends and family that are fun but inexpensive.  I came up with these Monster Mints!

Monster-treats

I played up the dispenser and made it so that the Monster Mints are dispensed right out of the Monster’s mouths.

I created some printable round labels that fit these Ice Breakers Mint canisters perfectly.  All you need to do is print out the labels and cut them out around the black line.

Halloween-craft

Be sure to open the “to share” tab of the mints rather than the “not to share” side so that the mouth opens the biggest.  Secure the label so that the mouth is directly over the opening.  While you have the label on the canister, lift it up and then cut the top of the label so that it fits the top of the opening tab.

Halloween

Once you have it cut, glue the label on top of the mints and you are all done!  So easy!  Now you have a fun little gift to hand out on Halloween, or give away at a Monster Party or give as a small gift to a friend or neighbor!

Halloween Gift–Germ Slayer Hand Sanitizer

Do you ever get tired of all the sweets and goodies around the holidays? I know I do! Even though I am guilty of sharing several goodies and treats here for the holidays, we try to be really careful with how much junk my kids eat. It can be difficult since it is everywhere now-a-days. Now, I am not saying my kids don’t eat junk food, because they do…they are kids! But we are trying to teach them moderation and the benefits of eating healthy.

Halloween-party

So I challenged myself to come up with a Halloween Gift Idea that was non-candy or sugar related. I came up with a really easy gift that would be perfect for a teacher or a child old enough to use Hand Sanitizer safely. I also LOVE that this is perfect for the beginning of the Cold/Flu Season.

Halloween-printables

These are so simple to make. I have two different sizes that should fit most of the regular sized bottles of Hand Sanitizer and the mini Hand Sanitizers.

Germ-Slayer-Hand-Sanitizer-Label.png

To make the Germ Slayer Hand Sanitizers, simply follow these steps.

Step 1: Remove the labels from your Hand Sanitizer Bottles. You may need to use some Goo Gone Label remover or soak them in hot, soapy water to get the sticky residue off.

Step 2: Print out the labels on regular white cardstock. Use a Laser Printer for best results and so that the color ink will not run when it gets wet. You can download them here:

{Germ Slayer Hand Sanitizer Labels}

*If you are not a fan of The Idea Room on Facebook, you will need to click like first and become a fan. After you become a fan you will need to click on “Get your free gift” in the upper right hand corner of the Idea Room FB page and then click on “Previous Downloads”.

Step 3: Cut out the label and then glue them onto the bottle(s). I simply use a glue stick and it works great.

Halloween

These would be fun to give out as a party favor or give to your little “ghouls” and “goblins” to keep the germs away this Holiday Season!

If you worry about giving this out to small children, be sure to give it to those who are old enough or use a bottle of hand soap instead of hand sanitizer.

What do you think? Do you prefer non-candy gift ideas for Halloween and Christmas?

Homemade Strawberry Jam & Free Jam Labels

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you this Strawberry Jam that I made using Ball’s Fresh Tech Jam Maker.  Today I want to share with you the recipe that I used and give you some free Jam Labels for your own use.

homemade-jam

I usually just use the recipe in my Pectin Box, but used Ball’s Strawberry Jam Recipe and we are really enjoying it.

how-to-make-jam

Strawberry Jam Recipe

*recipe from Ball Canning

You will need:

2 2/3 cups crushed strawberries (about three 1-lb containers)

3 Tbsp Ball® RealFruit® Classic Pectin
1/2 tsp butter or margarine
3 1/3 cups granulated sugar

Directions:

  1. WASH strawberries in cool, running water and drain. Remove stems and hulls. Crush berries one layer at a time using a potato masher. Measure required quantity of crushed berries and remaining ingredients for your recipe; set aside.
  2. SPRINKLE pectin evenly over bottom of the Pot fitted with the Stirrer. Add crushed strawberries evenly over pectin. Add butter/margarine to help reduce foaming.
  3. PRESS jam button – the cook time will automatically default to 21 minutes. Press enter.
  4. WAIT 4 minutes for appliance to sound 4 short beeps indicating that it is time to add sugar. Add sugar gradually while Stirrer continues running. Place the Glass Lid on the Pot.
  5. THE APPLIANCE will continue to automatically stir your ingredients while it cooks. Stay within earshot of the Jam & Jelly Maker, the appliance will beep again at the end of the process signaling jam cooking is complete. Press cancel, unplug the appliance and immediately remove Glass Lid.
  6. REMOVE Stirrer using a pot holder. Skim foam, if necessary, from top of jam.
  7. PRESERVE jam immediately, using 1 of the 3 ways listed here.

Strawberry-Jam

If you don’t have a Jam Maker, you can still make this jam and use your stove.  Ball also has many other great Jam and Jelly recipes.

I am sharing the fun Strawberry Jam Labels with you, and decided to make some other labels too.  I figure we are all probably making other Jams and Jellies that we want to add some pretty labels too as well.

12 Back-To-School Printables

You guys…it is time for our next Printable Club Blog Hop.  The months seems to be flying by and I can’t believe back-to-school is just a couple of weeks away for my kids.  I know may of you have kids who have already started school again for the new year.

It seems like back-to-school is a great time to get re-organized and back on schedule.    Today I am sharing some great links to some really fun Back-To-School Printables plus the printables that I created you…Idea Room Readers!

August Grid {School}

Homework is always something that can be difficult to keep up with…especially if you have more than one child…or children who tend to not remember when they have homework…ahem!

I thought it would be good to come up with a Homework Notepad for each of my children to help them to stay on top of their school work this year.

Homework-Notepad crop

All they have to do is carry it with them in their folder or backpack.  When the teacher gives them an assignment, they can write down what is due and when.  Then you can check it each night to help them keep on top of their studies.

homework-notepad 5

I realize this system will work great for some kids and maybe not so great for others.  But none-the-less, it can be a great way to keep kids responsible and teach them how to follow through with their responsibilities.

homework-notepad 2

It was really easy to make into a tear off notepad.  I simply printed out several copies of the notepad and then cut it out with a large paper cutter at my local copy center.  Then I came home and held the top tightly together with some of my husbands wood clamps.  You can also use clothespins or the larger binder clips.

back-to-school-pad 1

Then I painted on some Tacky Craft Glue and let it dry.  I did a couple of coats.  When it is fully dry, the paper tears off just like a real notepad.  Pretty fun right?

I have a blank version and Subject version:

Fourth of July Treats–Kiss Stickers & Bottle Labels

I have fallen in love with bottles and Hershey Kiss Stickers and have used them to come up with some easy to gift Holiday treat ideas for a couple of other Holidays…so why not come up with a Fourth of July version as well.  I didn’t think you would object ;)!  These are fun Fourth of July Treats.

fourth-kiss-labels 1

So…I am sharing them with you today so that you can use them to gift to your friends and family this Fourth of July.  Or…if you don’t need a little gift idea you could use them to fill up a jar for some Fourth of July home décor.  Or serve them at your Fourth of July BBQ.

fourth-kiss-labels 4

I had some of this fantastic glitter paper left over from this past American Crafts post, and it is too sparkly to not use.  So I whipped up a little Fourth of July Label by cutting out the Fourth of July Label I printed and then added some larger circles and a scallop.  Cut them by hand or use a circle cutter and then stack them up with some glue.

fourth-kiss-labels 3

I simply attached it to a string and hung it around the neck of the bottle.  Makes a super easy and sparkly Fourth of July treat!

fourth-kiss-labels 5

On a whim, I tried to come up with a more “kid” friendly version that can’t be dropped and broken like a glass bottle can.  I simply grabbed an empty toilet paper roll and covered it with some scrap book paper in festive holiday colors.  And it turns out that the Starbucks Frappuccino Bottles (which I use in this post…and a million others Winking smile) fits the roll perfectly!!

fourth-kiss-labels 8

Fill the tube up with some kisses that have the Fourth of July Kiss Stickers attached. I simply print them out on regular computer paper and glue them on with a glue stick.  Works great and I don’t have to bother with printable sticker paper.
