Grow a Succulent Garden and $250 Giveaway

*This post is a sponsored post with Miracle Gro.  I was given Miracle Gro products to use, however all opinions, statements and ideas are my own.

With summer right around the corner, teachers and students are wrapping up the school year.  I am always looking for a fun and unique way to show my children’s teachers how much we appreciate all that they do for our kids all year long.  I like to give them something they will actually enjoy using in their classrooms and/or their homes.  A good teacher can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

This season, Miracle Gro wants to inspire everyone to get out and Gro something. There is a way to incorporate “Gro-ing” into a myriad of different DIY projects—and you don’t have to be an avid gardener or live out in the country to accomplish it!  All you need is a little creativity and inspiration—and you can create a beautiful, living piece of art for just about any occasion/recipe/area of your home!

So, with that in mind, I wanted to make a simple but lovely succulent table top garden that my children’s teachers could enjoy and continue to grow after my children move on.  If you want to make one, it is really so simple and you just need a few things.

Succulent Garden:

  • Pot or Container (I used a small pail)
  • Old Dictionary Pages (to cover the pail)
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint Brush
  • Miracle Gro Moisture Mix Potting Soil
  • Succulents
  • Miracle Gro Cactus and Succulent Plant Food

Take some old dictionary (or other paper) and cover the pot with them.  Use a couple of layers of Mod Podge on the front and back of them and attach them to the container.  I specifically used the “teacher” and “grow” dictionary pages along with a couple of other words that remind me of a great teacher.

Fill your container with Miracle Gro Moisture Mix Potting Soil and leave about 4 inches at the top.  Plant your succulents and then add more potting soil and fill in the soil to the top of the container.  Gently pack the plants into the potting soil.

*For best results drill a couple of small holes in the bottom of the container and place some gravel in the bottom to ensure proper drainage.

If you are giving this as a gift to a teacher you can print out this fun little label “Teachers plant seeds of knowledge that will grow forever!”

To print the label simply click on the image.

Simply print out the label and cut it out.  Then paste it onto a piece of dictionary paper and then glue that onto a rectangle piece of black paper.

For an extra touch, I added a little metal stake in the pot with the word “grow” on it.  It is simply an old spoon with some vinyl letter stickers on it.  Just stick it in the soil.  This is a pretty simple way to grow something beautiful as a gift or for your own home.

Albion Fit Review and Giveaway

*Disclosure—This is a sponsored post from Albion Fit.  However, all opinions and statements are mine and mine alone.

I was recently contacted by Albion Fit to give an honest review of some of their fitness clothing.  Of course I was really excited about this as I am always looking for comfortable AND stylish workout clothes.

Many of you know that I am a runner and if you follow The Idea Room on Instagram, you will see that I am also training for my third half-marathon…(I realize this qualifies me as half-crazy).  But I love it.  I love being active and having the right clothing makes a big difference.

Now, I am not really a fan of self-portraits.  In fact, I feel super self-conscious.  My husband and I were laughing while trying to get these pictures because I feel so unnatural in front of the camera.  I prefer hiding behind a computer screen in my yoga pants ;)!

Albion-Fit 1

I chose to review the Albion Fit Women’s Fitness Go Long Crew Top in Heather and the Mantra Yoga Pant.  I tried them out on a recent family hiking and camping trip we took to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.  I knew we were going to be doing a lot of strenuous hiking and I wanted to be comfortable and fashionable while doing it ;)!  Since it is a desert, the temperatures during the day and night can be extreme, so it is important to layer.

The shirt is made of a light weight material that is perfect when there is a bit of chill in the air.  It was really comfortable and I like how it fell around my waist.  It was slim enough to not be baggy and hanging, but it was not too form fitting which I am uncomfortable with.

And the pants…I LOVED the pants.  They were so comfortable and I love the flare on the end.  As a girl with some curves to her, the flare is a nice touch to balance out my hips.  And I LOVED the design on the pant leg.  A fun twist to a black yoga pant.  They were so comfortable to hike in and they still looked great after a rigorous hike.

Albion Fit just opened a new store here in Salt Lake City at the amazing City Creek Center located on the upper level on the northeast end next to Allen Edmonds.  I am excited to be able to head in a check them out.

They also want to give one lucky Idea Room reader a $100 Albion Fit gift certificate! We love that!

If you would like a chance to be entered to win the gift certificate simply follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter box below.  If you are on a mobile device, you may need to enter via a computer.

The giveaway will close on Monday, May 6th at 2:00 pm MST, so that if you don’t win you will be able to take advantage of the discount code.  The giveaway is open to those 18 years and older and citizens of the United States of America.

Albion Fit is offering an exclusive promotional code for The Idea Room readers to save $15 on any purchase of $50 or more; the code to use at checkout is idearoom15 and it expires 5/06/13!  So be sure to hurry up and use it before it expires!
