I recently re-painted my daughter’s bedroom (more on that to come) and needed to update her bedside lamp to match the new paint color. I was initially inspired by one of The Idea Room reader’s projects {1 Talented Family} that I featured from one of our link-up parties.
So, I found a lampshade at the DI (a local thrift shop) for $2 and used my daughter’s original lamp base. (Her old lamp shade was pretty beat up).
Then I used a couple of my husband’s old t-shirts and cut them into 1 inch strips. Each strip I varied in length to make flowers in different sizes.
Then I rolled up each strip into a rose shaped flower. I added some dots of hot glue at various points while I was rolling it up to prevent the roses from unrolling. Then a dab of glue at the end to secure the rosebud flower.
Then I just glued them over the entire lampshade. This is another one of those projects that took some time to complete, but I just pulled it out to work on while I was watching TV or a movie. My older daughters even enjoyed helping me roll several of the flowers as well.
I really like how it turned out. I even really like how the flowers look when the lamp is turned on and the light glows in between each flower. And best of all my daughter LOVES it!

Cute as usual!
Wow, this is such a great idea. So beautiful, inexpensive, custom, and easy – my 4 favorite things! But what about for a boy's room? What kind of fancy things could you put on a lampshade in a boy's room? I'd love to hear ideas on this…
This is so pretty! Sadly, our kids room is a boys room, but maybe I'll make something like that for myself sometime…
so cute!
Can I ask you a question – I found a twirl skirt the other night after starting at your blog and know I can't find it again. It was a cute skirt with a great tutorial on how to do it step by step. Is this something that you have done or have seen? I cna't remember how I found it. I thought maybe it was from clicking on the sew dang cute blog but I can't find it there either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much. my email is [email protected]
Also, have you ever featured Heritage Makers or done a giveaway with them? I am a consultant with them and would be interested in doing a giveaway. What do you think?
Darling, darling, darling. Love it! You are so talented. Wonderful job!
