I know this is a little late in the game for Halloween Decor and Halloween Signs and that most of you are all ready to go for Halloween this year, but I am sharing it here just in case. This took me over one year to finally complete! Ha! So if you work on my time frame you could start now and have it ready for next Halloween! :)
I have wanted to make one of these Dead and Breakfast Inn Halloween Signs for a couple of years now after seeing the sign on Pinterest a couple of years ago. I was planning on making it and having it up for last Halloween…but life was crazy. We built the wooden frame but that is as far as it got. It has been sitting in my unfinished pile of projects (which is larger than I would care to admit) and I finally got around to finishing it up last week!
We started with a simple frame concept. All you would need are some 2 x 4’s and some wood screws. We planned out how large we wanted the sign to be and then made some cuts to the wood to make a frame and then screwed the boards together. Then we took a larger board from some scrap wood we had and screwed the frame onto the base to give it a solid foundation. Then to make sure the frame would stand up to the wind and outdoor elements we added some side corner “brackets” to give the frame some added stability.
Then I painted it with a white paint stain. The same paint stain we have used on our outdoor deck and gazebo. The paint stain protects the wood from the elements and is supposed to hold up a lot better and longer than a regular paint will. The paint stain soaks into the wood but also covers like a paint.
To make the sign, I simply created a file and cut it out on my Cricut Explore machine. I cut it out in some vinyl and used the vinyl as a stencil and stenciled the letters on the sign with some black paint. I know most of you don’t have access to a machine that can cut vinyl stencils, so I have provided a free printable download if you would like to print it out and cut it out and make a stencil the old fashioned way. *As always, the printables I share with you here are FREE for your personal use only. Please do not sell or share this printable on your own sites or in your own shops. Please send your friends and family members here to download their own. This is how I am able to continue to share FREE content for you.
To attach the sign to the wooden frame, I simply used some Hooks and Eyes. Use a screw driver to create a pilot hole for the hooks and eyes so that you do not split the wood. Do this slowly and the wood should not split.
So simple and fun! I love how it is a totally unique Halloween Decoration. You can make one too!
