How to Install Laminate Flooring
5. Install your flooring.
Since your room will be completely unique and different than the one we did, your installation will look different as far as angles, corners, piping, odd shapes, stairs and wet areas are concerned. Be sure to watch Pergo’s Installation Video to show you how to deal with each of those different circumstances.
6. Important points to be aware of during the installation process.
Create a 3/8 inch gap around your floors. Because your flooring will expand and contract with climate change, you will need to make sure there is a 3/8 inch gap between the boards and the wall on ALL sides. Use the spacers that come in the installation kit. They are pre-measured and make it easy for you. If you don’t not allow the 3/8 inch space, there will not be sufficient space for the boards to move and it could cause your flooring to lift and become uneven.
Be sure that there are at least 12 inches between the joints. This can cause your floor to gap if the measurement is less than 12 inches.
Make sure you are using the click in technology correctly. Watch the video mentioned above and practice it a few times before starting on the entire floor. You will have to go back and redo it, if you don’t start out correctly the first time….We know this from experience :).
7. Cover any expansion spaces around your new floor with a wallbase and quarter round molding.
8. Use sealant around perimeter areas in rooms where spills might happen.
Enjoy your new, beautiful floor for years to come!
