Even though it is summer, my kids are still expected to do their daily chores. We are not perfect at it all the time, but it helps me to feel organized and keep the house clean with the kids home during the day. My kids are getting older and are pretty good about understanding what is expected of them. It doesn’t mean chore time always runs smoothly…because…let’s face it…they are kids! But I came up with a Chore Card Template that seems to be helping.
We had an outdated chore chart system that my older kids had outgrown. So I came up with a similar chore card system that was a bit more suited to my older kids who have a better understanding of what a chore entails. (And that watermelon? Delicious! I love me some watermelon in the summer!!)
I simply used an Avery template 8371 for their printable business cards and made up some chore cards. For each chore I spelled out the exact details I would like them to make sure they complete. This way they know exactly what is expected of them.
My kids each get 1 to 2 Family Chore Cards along with their own Personal Chore Cards which are pictured below. Each kids personal chore cards are written specifically for their individual needs. They are to get all their chore cards completed before they are able to play with friends, etc.
The kids were pretty excited about this new system. The first day of the new chore cards was fantastic! I have never seen them whip through their chores so quickly and HAPPILY! The second day, they were a bit less enthusiastic…haha! But so far the cards are getting the job done.
Want to use them in your home? I have provided the download for you. If you use them, I would love to hear how they are working for you!
