Brown Sugar Scrub

Are you guys ready for another Sugar Scrub? There is just something about the Summer Season right upon us that has me craving a good scrub.  This Brown Sugar Scrub is actually a reposting of one of my very first Sugar Scrubs when I first started blogging.

My photo skills have come a long way since then.  And I have been dying to make this scrub again and take better photos.  I finally got around to doing it.

Brown-sugar-scrub 7

This recipe is really simple and I have found that my very favorite oil to use for scrubs is coconut oil.  I did not know about coconut oil 3 years ago so I have made the change in the old recipe.

With Mother’s Day this weekend, it’s time to start thinking about gifts for the special women in your lives.  Now, I don’t know about you…but as a Mother myself, I prefer gifts that are of the pampering kind.  I have been obsessed with using DoTerra Essential Oils and just got some Lime oil.  It smells AMAZING!  So…I made a Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub.

If you have been hanging around The Idea Room, you have been aware of my Sugar Scrub obsession.  At the bottom of this post, I will share with you my entire collection of Sugar Scrubs so that you can take a look at them if you are interested.

Since my food allergy diagnosis, I have incorporated Coconut Oil as my main cooking/baking base and I am in LOVE with it.  It is the perfect oil to use in this scrub because it has a slight scent and leaves the sugar a nice, crisp white.  It also leaves your freshly scrubbed skin feeling soft and smooth.

Plus, the combination of Lime and Coconut scream summer, which we are totally looking forward to at our house.  I also threw in some fresh grated coconut to give the scrub a little more texture.

You just might want to eat this stuff…which would totally be fine since everything is edible :)!

All you need is a cute jar and a label, which I am providing as a free download (see below for link) and you have a great gift for that special Mother or woman in your life.  You will want to make a really big batch so you can keep some for yourself!

Or if you want to get really creative, you could gift your sugar scrub inside of a coconut shell after the fresh coconut meat has been removed.  Then wrap it up with a cellophane wrapper and a cute little tag.

To make this Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub, you will need the following items.

Mother’s Day Card with Cardstore

Before we know it, it is going to be Mother’s Day.  Do you know what you are getting for the special Mom’s and Women in your life?  I have a couple ideas brewing for the Mom’s in my life…and of course I am planning on sharing here.

Along with a nice gift, I usually like to give a written note in the form of a Mother’s Day Card, which I can express in the written word exactly why I appreciate my Mom and my Mother-In-Law.  I think it is important to express how and why we feel the way we do about a person, instead of just assuming that person knows how we feel.  You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Just a couple of months ago my mom suffered a pretty serious stroke.  She lost physical control of the right side of her body and was taken to the hospital via an ambulance.  Her doctors kept her overnight in the hospital for some testing and to wait on her test results before sending her home.

It was quite the shock for me and my family members.  if you have had similar experiences, you know what I mean.  One day everything is going along like normal and then suddenly everything is different.  Luckily my mom has almost made a full recovery, but there is always going to be that worry in the back of our minds.  We are so blessed and she is getting good medical care now to try and prevent another stroke from occurring.

My mom is such an amazing woman.  I attribute most of my good qualities to her and my dad…and possibly a few of my not so loveable traits too ;)!  She is one of the most loving and selfless women I know.  She lives her life with Faith and Hope and continues to be an amazing example of courage and happiness to my family and I.

Her recent health scare has been a big reminder to me about the importance of letting our friends and family members know just how much we care about and love them.  Don’t wait another day to tell someone how much you care about them.  Even if you are estranged from them…reach out to them and tell them.

I was excited to be able to team up with the Cardstore this Mother’s Day and I was able to make a fun and personalized card for my Mom.

Cardstore

It was so easy and is a lot more personal than just picking out a card at the drug store.  I was able to add photos and have the card say exactly what I wanted it to say for my Mom. You can even use your personal signature.  This way you can totally personalize it to an individual loved one.  Cardstore can print, stamp and send your card via US postal service for you.  How convenient is that?

Don’t you just love the vintage pictures of my cute Momma?  Such a fun keepsake.

Lemon Sugar Scrub

I am still recovering from this last weekend.  My feet are killing me.  We did a lot of walking and running back and forth to make sure everything was running smoothly with  the Snap Conference. My feet needed a little extra love and pampering.  So I was excited to be able to use some of this amazing Lemon Sugar Scrub.  I whipped it up a couple of weeks ago and have used it a couple of times but still had some left. Perfect!

Lemon Sugar Scrub Recipe:

2 cups Granulated White Sugar

1/3 to 1/4 cup of Almond or Coconut Oil

3-4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

It is so easy to make. Really! I simply took two cups of white granulated Sugar and mixed in a 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup Almond Oil (Coconut Oil will work too).  Add the oil slowly till you have a nice soft consistency that is soft but not too oily.  Then add a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil.

Scoop the mixture into a pretty jar.  And keep it all to yourself.  Or…if you are the sharing type…which sometimes I am, gift it to your mom or one of your best girlfriends!  They will love you forever!

This stuff is really so amazing and feels so decadent and expensive.  No one will be the wiser that it was so easy and inexpensive to make.  Those are the best kind of gifts to give…am I right?

This makes your feet so soft and makes them smell so good.  Perfect for those summer time feet.

I made the labels on my Silhouette CAMEO.  I made the file into a pdf so that you can print it out here.  Simply print on white card stock and cut it out and glue on the jar with a glue stick.  Works like a charm.

Make Bead Necklaces

ribbon necklace 3 wm

I am so excited about this latest project…how to make bead necklaces!  Ever since I saw those adorable gumball necklaces over at One Charming Party (whose site I LOVE)…I have been wanting to make them for my girls…and if I am being completely honest…MYSELF!!  So cute right?  Well, I have kept my eye out for gumballs and just never came across any colors that I loved without having to order them online.  Well, one day while perusing the craft store (which happens more often than I would like to admit) I spied some wooden beads!  BINGO!  I had my “gumballs” and I could make them exactly the colors I wanted.

And they are so EASY!  I simply took the wooden beads and painted them with acrylic paint.

DIY ribbon and bead necklace 8wm

I put each bead onto the end of some skewers that we had left over from some summer BBQ’s so that I could paint them easily.  Then I carefully pushed them off the skewer and onto a paper and left them to dry completely.  Then I painted them with a high gloss finish.  I just used a bottle that can be found right next to all the acrylic paints.  I forgot to take a picture of it…but any glossy varnish will work.  I wanted them to have a glossy finish much like the gumballs do.

DIY ribbon and bead necklace 7 wm

I painted several in some fun and bright colors and added some polka-dots to some since I seem to be loving polka-dots lately!

DIY ribbon and bead necklace 5 wm

After the beads are completely dry, cut about 3.5 – 4 feet of ribbon (depending on the finished length you would like the necklaces to be).  I used 3.5 feet and that seemed to be a great size so that all three of my girls could share and wear these necklaces.

DIY ribbon and bead necklace 4 wm

Line up your beads to determine the pattern you would like them to be strung on the ribbon.  Take your middle bead and thread it onto the ribbon so that it is in the exact middle.  Tie a knot on each end of the bead to hold it into place.  Then leave about an inch of space (or more depending on your preference) and tie another knot.  Thread your next bead on the ribbon and tie a knot directly on the other side.  Now do the same on the other side of the middle bead.  Continue with the process so that you thread one side and then the other.  This will ensure that you have the same amount of ribbon at the end of each end bead on the necklace.  I put seven beads on each necklace and feel that an odd number looked better than an even number of beads.

ribbon necklace 2 wm

The possibilities are endless!  You can also find other great beads at your local craft store if you don’t feel like painting them yourself!

I love that these are so fun and cute and so INEXPENSIVE!!  I also think these would be a great classy gift for a little girl for her birthday from a friend.  Or a fun activity to do for a little girl’s birthday party so the guests could each take one home.  Or Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers…Or make them to give to a mom/grandma for Mother’s Day!

We have been wearing these around town for the past few days and have already had several compliments on them!

Now I am looking for some classier beads to make one for myself!

Bath Salts

Photobucket

I have to say that I am in a bit of shock with how kind all of you have been. And I seriously just looked at my stat counter and swear it was only at 3,000. Where have you all come from?? I have enjoyed reading all of your nice comments and am inspired to try to keep the ideas coming. Thanks for all of your support!

Now, are any of you still looking for that last minute Mother’s Day gift? What mom wouldn’t enjoy a long, quiet, no kids allowed, soak in a hot tub? These are super easy, and chances are you already have most, if not all, of the ingredients in your home. This is a recipe which my sister used to make for her friends a few years ago.

3 cups epsom salt
2 cups baking soda
1 cup table salt
Food or soap coloring
Scented essential oil

If you want more than one scent and color, separate into different bowls before adding the color and scent. Then you can have 2-3 different choices to choose from. Let the bath salts dry for 24 hours before placing them into your decorative jars.

**My sister reminded me that some essential oils are better when using on your skin than others are. Try to find the ones that contain mineral oils or natural oils and are free from acetone and drying ingredients.

Glass Tile Pendants

I am always on the look out for a fun and unique gift idea for friends and family.  This year my new go to gift are these cute Glass Tile Pendant Necklaces.  One of my favorite parts of these necklaces is that they are so easy to make.  They are also really versatile and unique and you can make a wide variety of them to be as unique as the person you are making them for. Today I am sharing with you the tutorial so you can learn how to make tile pendants too.

How-to-make-tile-pendants

I found the glass tiles and bails to make these here. I bought my Diamond Glaze at Ben Franklin Crafts.

glass-pendants

All you need to do is take your glass tile and clean it off. (They were a bit dusty upon arrival). Then find your favorite picture of a child (it has to be a picture from a laser printer or photo store), scrapbook paper or even a peice of fabric as the necklace design.

Photobucket

With a pencil trace around the tile square. When cutting out the square of paper (or other material), cut inside your line so that it fits well on the square. Coat the printed side of the paper, the side you want to see on your necklace, with your diamond glaze. You do not need a lot of diamond glaze, just a couple of small dots will be sufficient. You just need enough to cover a thin layer of the glass tile. Attach your paper to the glass tile. If any excess glaze runs out of the edges of the glass, immediately wipe it clean with a damp paper towel.

Photobucket

Turn your glass tile over so that you are looking at the back of your necklace. Paint a thin layer of Diamond Glaze over the entire back of the necklace and let dry.

When dry, place a small drop of Diamond Glaze onto your bail (chain attachment) and attach the bail in the exact middle on the back and at the top of your necklace.

glass-pendants

When the glaze has dried, your necklace is finished and ready to wear. Aren’t they adorable? I made a few for myself and then let the girls each pick out a design for their own necklace. My sisters don’t know it yet, but they are going to be getting some of these for their birthdays this year…Surprise!
