But I know a lot of people are last minute-ers…so hopefully a few of you will be able to use these this year or save them for next year.  I wanted to make a St. Patrick’s Day Candy Bar Wrapper like these Father Day Candy Bar Wrappers and wanted the gold foil wrappers.  I thought about doing the Symphony Candy Bars, but then my eyes spied the Rolo’s and I knew that I would be making the wrapper for them.

To make a Roll ‘o Gold simply print out the label I am providing you and glue it on the Rolo’s in place of the regular wrapper.  Viola!  Instant gift!

You will need to go through my FB page to gain access to them.  If you are not a fan of The Idea Room, you will need to like the page first and then click on {Previous Downloads} to gain access to the printables.

St. Patricks Day Gifts

You guys…I am obsessed with these bottles (recycled Starbucks Frappucino).  So I apologize in advance for this project.  But I just could not help myself!  I realized that I hardly have any St. Patrick’s Day Gifts or décor ideas on The Idea Room.  I decided that I needed to fix that.  So be prepared for a few simple and easy ideas in the coming week.

I LOVE rainbows so it was the first thing I thought of.  This is definitely not a new idea and I have seen it all over, but I thought I would put my own little spin on it.  The spin will come in the next post…but here is the first version for you if you would like to duplicate it for your own use.

I like both of these fun containers.  The tall skinny test tube container was picked up from Michaels and is perfect to give a small little treat to a neighbor or friend.

Or give a bit more candy to one of your favorite teachers for a little pick me up this St. Patrick’s Day.

I will be providing you with the free downloads of the St. Patrick’s Day printables for a few days before I move them over to my store.  So be sure to grab them if you want to use them.

The files for the “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” Labels measure 3 x 2.5 inches.  The round “I Am Lucky” Tags print out at 3 inches.  You can use them as labels at this size.  If you want the round tag to fit the top of the Starbucks Bottles you will need to be sure and print the labels at 50% of the original size so that they will measure 1.5 inches and they will fit perfectly on the top of the lid.

Mint Chocolate Chip Pancakes

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner.  And while we don’t celebrate this holiday as much as we do the other holidays in our home, I still like to do something a little different so the day does not feel like every other day.  In my home growing up, my mom always made us a green breakfast and I find myself inclined to do the same for my children.

But instead of just coloring the same old pancakes green, I thought we would give Mint Chocolate Chip pancakes a try.  And of course I used my family as my taste testers.  They were a hit for all…and if you have kids, you know that is saying something!

We modified a Buttermilk Pancake recipe and added some mint flavoring.  The first batch came out a little TOO minty, but the second try we seem to have gotten the right mix.  I am hoping to figure out how to make these gluten and dairy free for me and have been doing some research on alternative ingredients!

Mint Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure mint extract
  • 3 to 4 drops green food coloring (optional)
  • 3/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips, with a few for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a bowl.
  2. Whisk together buttermilk, egg, butter, extracts, and food coloring (if using) in a small bowl. Add to dry ingredients and stir until mixed well. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Pour about 14 cup of pancake batter onto skillet for each pancake.. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until bottom is golden brown and edges begin to bubble, then carefully flip and cook on the other side for 1 to 2 more minutes.

I think these will be our new St. Patrick’s Day tradition.  The sure did disappear fast enough the first time.  You can even make them ahead and then pop them into the toaster or microwave to heat them up if you are short of time on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day….or any day for that matter.  You could also whip some of these up and serve them as a dessert by adding a scoop of vanilla icecream and covering with some creamy hot fudge!

And…they tasted pretty darn good.  My son LOVED them…but he is also a fan of mint chocolate chip ice cream.  He has declared them one of his favorite cookies!

Either way, they would be fun to serve up for St. Patrick’s Day or make some and give them away!
