Looking for a cool and refreshing summertime beverage perfect for a BBQ or Party? Make your guests a Watermelon Slushie.
SLUSH
Last week we had a strange wintery storm blow in which brought some low level snow and cold rain. VERY unusual for June…not unheard of here in Utah…but strange none-the-less. But a couple of days later the heat was soaring again in the upper 90’s. So of course some cold and slushy drinks were in order. I know you have heard me talk about my love for all things icy and slushy. This time I thought I would try making a Watermelon Slush. I was pleasantly surprised by the sweetness and how tasty it was. I thought it might be a little bland…but the flavor was so refreshing and good!
HOW TO MAKE OUR WATERMELON SLUSHIE RECIPE
So go ahead and make these up for your friends and family on a super hot day. Serve them up for your next summer party or shower. They are definitely cool and refreshing and worth a try and the prep time is very minimal.
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups cubed seedless watermelon
1/4 cup white sugar or sweetener
10 ice cubes
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place cubed watermelon and ice into a blender. Pour in lime juice, sugar, and salt. Blend until smooth or to taste. (Or till desired consistency is reached) Serve immediately. Garnish with fresh mint leaves (optional). Add additional flavorings if desired. If there is any left over you can freeze it in the freezer.
WATERMELON SLUSHIE
I was a bit surprised that the kids liked them as much as they did. The youngest, who doesn’t really eat anything other than quesadillas’ and string cheese wasn’t really a fan…but I knew she wouldn’t be. She prefers to eat the watermelon “not all mushed up!” These slushies melt REALLY fast so be sure to serve them up immediately. I definitely liked them better when they were icier…but that may be a personal preference and a texture issue.
Place watermelon and ice into a blender. Pour in lime juice, sugar, and salt. Blend until smooth. Serve immediately. Garnish with fresh mint leaves (optional). Add additional flavorings if desired.

Oh my, this looks and sounds so tasty and refreshing! It may be a few more weeks before the markets here have the first watermelon of the season, but I think this is a drink worth the wait ;-) Thanks for the inspiration.
Ha! I was in Colorado last week when that storm hit and we were camping in Ouray. My first time camping and it got down to 30 degrees! Needless to say, I ended up in a hotel :-) This watermelon slushie looks amazing, and now that we are back home in warm Louisiana I am going to make these this weekend! Thanks for sharing.
