Hello there!
My name is Nicole and I’m a designer and online shop owner. I’m a huge believer in DIY, especially around the holiday season, so I’m thrilled to be a part of Amy’s Holiday Series. Today I’m sharing a project I created in just a few hours that I think is going to become part of my yearly holiday decor…I love it oh so much. If you’re looking for a cute craft to make this season, I know you’ll love my DIY Christmas Countdown Chalkboard Ornament.
Supplies used…
I used a ton of different supplies to create my project, a lot of which I already had on hand. The only things I purchased were the square wooden ornament from Michaels and the two stamp sets which I’ll talk about later.
I started off the ornament by painting each side with black chalkboard paint. The one I used took about two hours to dry. Once it was finished I “primed” it using a piece of chalk. Basically you just scribble all over your chalkboard piece to make sure whatever your write on it doesn’t become permanently etched into the board.
I knew I wanted to feature some gorgeous script lettering on my piece, however, there was no way I was going to be able to do it on my own. Luckily an awesome new stamping company called Concord & 9th came out with two script stamps sets, Sophisticated Script and Sophisticated Script Uppercase, that takes the frustration out of lettering. Along the bottom of my ornament I stamped “days til Christmas” in a sticky, watermark ink, sprinkled some white embossing powder over top, and heated it with a heat tool. This technique is called heat embossing and you can check out a video tutorial of how to do it here.
To finish off my ornament I added a piece of black striped twine to the punched hole. I also used a silver sparkly bow that I glued a jingle bell on to hide the hole. My stamping was a little off to the right so I put some red rhinestones next to “days” to create berries and used some green leaves to create holly. Lastly, of course, I wrote in “25” with a piece of chalk!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY project that I made. I absolutely love the result and can’t wait to start the countdown in a few weeks.
Have a happy holiday season!
Nicole

But yeah, thanx for spending time to talk about this subject here on your web page.
