How to Make Easy Fabric Pumpkins
Materials needed to make fabric pumpkins:
- fabric of your choice (mine measured 9 x 18)
- fabric scissors
- fabric ruler
- sewing machine (or needle and thread)
- sewing needle
- thread
- fiberfill stuffing
- moss green felt
- tree branch
- garden shears
- glue sticks
- hot glue gun
Instructions:
- Take you fabric of choice and cut a piece that measures 9 x 18. You can make this any size you want. I wanted my pumpkins to be round and square-ish, so I made sure my pumpkin would be about 8.5 x 8.5 inches when it was finished. If you want a taller pumpkin increase the height of your fabric.
- Fold the material in half so the the right sides of the material are on the inside.
- Pin the material together so it stays in place when you sew it.
- Sew together the shorter sides using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
- Turn the material that is now connected in a circle like tube, so that the right side of the material is on the outside.
- Sew a running stitch on one open side of the tube. You can do this on your machine or with a needle and thread. (This will be a very big and loose stitch so that you can pull the thread to gather the material together). Do not backstitch.
- Pull the thread on each end to gather the material together.
- Pull it as tight as you can without breaking your thread. You will want the end completely sealed together. You may need to stitch it together with a needle and thread to secure it tightly.
- Sew another running stitch on the other open end of the tube.
- Pull the ends of the thread on each end and gather the material together again. This time, don’t pull it all the way tight.
- Stuff the pumpkin with the fiberfill stuffing as tightly as you like and until the pumpkin is the shape you want it to be. You will want to flatten the bottom of the pumpkin so that it will sit squarely on your surface.
- Take a tree branch and cut off a small piece to create a stem for your pumpkin.
- Cut a pumpkin leaf out of green felt. You can use this free printable pumpkin leaf template if you would like, or create your own!
- Glue the branch into place in the middle of the pumpkin. Be sure to hold together the edges of the material so that the pumpkin stems are sealed in the pumpkin. Be careful as the hot glue will be hot.
- When the glue has set, glue your pumpkin leaf to the top of the pumpkin.
- You can add some extra embellishments like ribbon or twine to complete the pumpkin to your liking.

FALL DECOR IDEAS
I found some beautiful fall decor items from my local JOANN! They have such a wide variety of Holiday and Seasonal Home Decor items that are perfect for decorating your home for the upcoming holidays. It was difficult to narrow down my favorites to just a few items with which to create my fall mantle.
DIY FALL DECOR
I hung up the wooden Farmhouse Pumpkin Sign that I made last year. Then I added some gorgeous Gold Lanterns. The ones I have are sold out but I found similar ones here. I am really loving gold right now…are you?
Also, I picked up some faux floral Hydrangea’s in this classy cream color. Hydrangea’s are one of my favorite flowers, and I just love displaying them in my home! I placed them in this small bamboo basket that I also grabbed from JOANN.
Initially, was going to fill the bottom of the basket with some tissue paper or green leaves, but I actually am loving that you can see through the basket!

Such a nice decoration idea! I’ll surely will make few of these pumpkins, they’re so cute . Loved the Hydrangea, though I prefer often fresh and dried flowers, the faux blossoms look lovely too. Ialways add flowers to my decorations, nothing seems completed to me withouta blossom or two. Greets!

Stephanie-Thank you!
May I make one slight suggestion?
If you are sewing the running stitch by hand, try using dental floss. Unwaxed, if possible. That stuff won’t break, and you can tie as tightly as you need to without worrying. It is awesome, underrated stuff!
Now, please excuse me while I check my fabric stash to find something suitable for these….
Thanks for the simple, yet dramatic decorating idea!
Great tip!! I am going to do that next time!!
Molly- Thank you so much!
I made some of these and they turned out great! Thanks for the tutorial! I was just wondering if I could get the link to the leaf template? Thanks so much!
Maegan- I thought that I added that. Let me look into it. Sorry.
I made some of these and used a small cinnamon stick for the stem. I also made some in black and orange check for Halloween. I torn green fabric in long strips and tied small pieces around the cinnamon stick for leaves. Gives a very rustic look to the pumpkins.
Dewesa- Great tips. I will be trying them out!
I love the autumn leaf pumpkins but can’t find a tutorial for these. Is there one?
