Is your crayon box riddled with hundreds of broken crayons like ours is? Make your own crayons for your toddlers who can’t hold regular crayons or as Valentine’s Day gifts for your kids friends. It is super easy…all you need to do is gather up all the pieces (or break up full size crayons). All the wrappers need to be removed from the crayons. I soaked mine in cold water and the paper peeled right off. I made sure to dry off the crayons and then put the crayons into a small muffin tin that has been lightly greased. I pre-heated the oven to 300 degrees and then baked them for about 8 minutes or until all the crayons are melted. I took them out of the oven and let them cool on the counter for about 15 minutes.
Since it is so cold here, I stuck them outside to cool for another 20 minutes. (A freezer will work if it is warm where you are). They should pull away from the edge of the pan when they are ready. Simply turn the pan over and empty them out.
We made some for my daughter to give out to her Pre-School class for Valentine’s Day. I made some bag toppers to go onto each bag. I simply used my photo program and made a 3.75 in. (width) x 4.25 in. (length) tag to fit on the 3.75 inch wide goody bags I found at Robert’s.
I used a Wilton heart muffin tin like this one (different brand): Heart Muffin Tin

Those are so cute. And look so incredibly easy. My daughter is only 9 months, but when she gets older and we have the crayons around, I will definitely try this. Thanks!
This is what we did last year, and it was so great that everyone could help with the project.
great idea! Saw you on Studio 5, great job :)
Has anyone tried these with the silicon baking molds. I haven't used them yet but have been having trouble finding the metal ones. Thanks
Hi- I have made these using silicone heart shaped baking pans – it worked awesome. My son and I put them in small envelopes that said “Happy Valentines Day for ‘CRAYON’ out loud”
we did this last year and silicon ones work fine (our was flower shaped) but we did heart shapes in a metal pan

Thanks for all your great ideas!
This is a great craft that we have used for Valentine's favors for the past few years. On our tags I also write the saying, "You color my world!" Love your blog and all the great ideas!
This is such a cute idea! I stumbled upon your blog today and I absolutely love it! I now have you bookmarked. I am very excited to try some of your wonderful ideas. :)
I love this idea! I’m trying it right now for my daughter’s Valentines too, thanks for the freezer tip.
I made these with my granddaughter, Jordan for Valentine’s Day. Instead of cards she gave her classmates a beautiful heart crayon with a note tied to it saying ‘YOU COLOR MY WORLD’ The kids loved them.
Probably can find broken ones at Goodwill or yard sales. These are a great size for older babies to be g in coloring as soon as they can. GREAT IDEA!
Is it possible to add a scent to these?
Like cherry or strawberry for red…..
lime for green etc.
I hadn’t thought about that. I bet you could use an essential oil! It would probably work just fine! I would try it on one crayon first to see!
