How do I strive for balance in my everyday life? This is a question I am constantly battling.
We all have many so called "hats" that we wear on a daily basis. I, in particular, am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, chef, maid, taxi driver, judge, blogger, counselor, nurse, crafter, and so on…
Everyday we wear several of these hats, and sometimes we wear several of them at the same time. So, living a balanced life can be difficult at best. But it is something we should all strive for daily.
If for example, I have a day where I am being 95% mom, then ultimately I am only giving 5% to the other important areas of my life.
No one can give 100 percent all the time. For me, a balanced life is all about MAKING time for the important things FIRST and then filling the rest of your day with some of the other good things.
In my life right now I NEED to be a mother and a wife first and foremost. So that is where I try to focus most of my time and energy.
During this particular stage in my life, I also feel like it is important to spend some time NOT being a mom. I feel like I can give more to my kids if I take a little bit of time to do something to recharge my batteries and to tip the scales of balance toward spending time being a good wife, friend, or to enjoy crafting and blogging.
For example, I love to get a babysitter and spend the evening out with my husband away from the children. Even if it is only for a couple of hours. Sometimes a babysitter is not an option so we plan a date night at home after the kids are in bed.
Another way I recharge is to have a night out with my girlfriends. There is nothing quite like a night with the girls to recharge your batteries…am I right? It usually is a night filled with fun and laughter.
I also love to run. Most of the time, when I am feeling overwhelmed, stressed or just need to sort through my jumbled thoughts…a good run does wonders for clearing my "crazy" head.
And finally, creating something with my hands is a great way to reconnect with who I am outside of being a mother and a wife. It gives me something substantial to my efforts in a way that folding the laundry or cleaning the house can not.
Balance is just that…juggling the many duties and the different responsibilities we all have. While continuing to put the most important and best things first and fitting in some of the good that is left. And learning how to say no to things that can take you away from where you need and want to be.
