GRADUATION
Graduation season is here, and there’s no better way to celebrate your favorite graduate than with a thoughtful, handmade gift. In this post, I’ll show you how to create an easy and affordable Graduation Cap Jar Gift that’s perfect for holding cash, candy, notes of encouragement, or small trinkets. Whether it’s for high school or college grads, this DIY project is sure to be a hit!
HOW TO MAKE A JAR FILLED GRADUATION GIFT
Materials Needed:
-
Starbuck Jar or Small mason jar
-
Black cardstock
- Printer
-
Optional: Gold or colored embroidery thread (for the tassel)
-
Glue gun or tacky glue
-
Scissors
-
Optional: gift tag, stickers, glitter, or ribbon
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Create the Cap: Cut a square (around 3×3 inches) from black cardstock. Glue it to the top of the mason jar lid to form the “cap.”
- Base of Jar: Wrap strip of card stock around the base and then attach graduation date. I punched out a 1 inch paper punch to do this. Add the graduation gift tag around the neck of the bottle.
-
Make the Tassel: Wrap thread around your fingers 10–15 times. Tie one end to secure, then trim the opposite end. Glue it to the center of the cap and add a small button or bead for flair.
-
Fill the Jar: Add your gift: money, candy, advice notes, or small keepsakes.
-
Add Finishing Touches: Decorate with stickers, a custom tag with their name and graduation year, or a ribbon in school colors.
Any graduate…from Kindergarten to College would be happy to be gifted this cute Graduation Gift jar.
Bonus Ideas:
-
Use school colors for a personalized touch.
-
Pair it with a card that includes a motivational quote.
-
Turn it into a time capsule by including future goals and dreams inside.
