If you have been following along with us on Instagram, you might have noticed that we totally redid our family room this summer. This is a project we have been wanting to do since the day we moved into our home over 12 years ago. The job was going to be a big one, so it kept getting put on the bottom of the to do list. I am so happy to have it almost finished.
On a whim (a long thought out and discussed project) became a reality last Memorial Day when our entire weekend suddenly was free. That Friday night we began taking the room apart. I hastily grabbed some quick before photos of the room.
Saturday we start the major renovations and tore out the brick fireplace. We already have one other wood fireplace in the basement and two other gas fireplaces in our home. This wood burning stove never really fit into the style I wanted in our home, so I was excited to get rid of it!
We put the kids to work :)!
It took all summer for us to finish and now I just have a few decorating items to take care of before I can check this one off of the list! We added some ship lap to the walls and I plan on sharing with you how we did that in an upcoming post. So be sure to stay tuned for that!
We also built our barn door and will be sharing how we did that here soon as well. We are going to paint the door a fun color too! The door is just primed right now and is waiting for me to find some time to get the new paint color on it! Time is always the factor on our home projects!
But today, let’s talk about just how easy it is to hang an interior sliding door…or a barn door! We love using this sliding door hardware from National Hardware. National Hardware has a great variety of Sliding Hardware. They have a few different styles and finishes to choose from that fit in with the style of your home.
We have the Original Oil Rubbed Bronzed Hardware. National Hardware currently has two Oil Rubbed Bronze kits (the original Oil Rubbed Bronze and the new Horseshoe Kit) and Stainless Steel available, and they just recently launched a new Satin Nickel finish.
The sliding hardware has the following details:
- Accommodates openings of up to 36-in wide; for openings wider than 36-in use multiple kits
- For single doors 1 3/8-in and 1 3/4-in thick
- Accommodates single doors up to 200 lbs
- Includes detailed instructions for easy installation
- Designed and tested to follow ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 Standards
- Use connecting adaptor N187-001 to connect multiple pieces of track
Because our door was larger, we needed two kits to make one that was long enough. The best part is that the hardware is so easy to install. Barn doors can be intimidating…but really, they are not hard at all to install.
National Hardware makes the installation process easy by sharing some great instructions for installing your own sliding door. You can find them here.
National Hardware is also giving One Idea Room Reader their own Sliding Hardware Kit. If you would like a chance to be the owner of an Oil Rubbed Bronze Horseshoe Kit (pictured below), enter in the widget below.

That barn door looks great!
Just curious, why didn’t you post any pics of the barn door closed?
Would love to see what it looks like closed.
Dave- Thank You! I guess I just preferred the pictures of the barn door open more than the ones with the barn door closed. Great question.
