Do you love the popular song Bushel and a Peck? Make this fun pillow with pattern so you can make one too. Perfect for nursery or kids room.
BUSHEL AND A PECK
One of my favorite memories of growing up is when my mom would sing the song “Bushel and a Peck” to us kids. Usually she would sing it at night while she was trying to get us kids into bed. I couldn’t even tell you the rest of the words to the song, and can only sing the chorus now, but it brings back good memories.
The other day, I was talking with a friend recently and it was fun to realize we both grew up in homes where this song has fun childhood memories. Many of you may feel the same way about this fun little song. As I had my own children I began to sing it to them when they were little. So I thought it would be fun to find a way to display this little memory in our home.
I LOVE YOU A BUSHEL AND A PECK
I decided to make an I Love You a Bushel and a Peck pillow because it is such a simple project to make and can be placed in any room of the house.
You can make a pillow cover using this pillow cover tutorial that I have shared with you earlier. You can use any material you like for the pillow cover, but I made mine with linen for the farmhouse look. Another idea, is to buy inexpensive pillow covers here if you don’t want to take a little bit of extra time to make one.
BUSHEL AND A PECK PILLOW COVER
You can make a stencil with your Cricut Maker and then cut it out in vinyl and paint it on the pillow cover. Today, I will be sharing the exact directions of the Bushel and a Peck Pillow Cover so you can make one too if you are interested.
You will need the following supplies to make your Valentine Pillow Covers.
- Cricut Maker (or other Cricut machine)
- Light Grip Cut Mat
- vinyl
- transfer tape
- cricut tool
- black paint
- red paint
- stencil sponge
- pillow cover or make one with my tutorial here
Directions for making pillow cover:
- Click on the green button “Make It” below to grab the .png file. You can convert the .png file to an .svg file which will allow you to cut in on your Cricut machine. Upload the .svg into your Design space and make a new project. (I like this online svg converter).
- Make any changes in size, etc. if you want. You can ungroup the words and move them and then regroup and attach them so they don’t move when you send it the Cricut Maker to cut. I added a heart to mine.
- Choose vinyl as your material. If by chance, it is a thicker vinyl change your setting to more other than the default setting.
- Load your vinyl onto a light grip mat and load the Cricut machine.
- Cut your project on your Cricut Machine. I used the Cricut Maker.
- Remove the project from the mat and then weed out the excess vinyl with a cricut tool. Then, you will be weeding out the inside of the letters. This is going to be your stencil!
- Put the transfer tape onto the front of the vinyl that you will be using for the pillow stencil. Then peel off the backing of the vinyl.
- Place the stencil on a ironed pillow cover so that it is lined up where you want it. Carefully peel off the plastic! Make your own pillow cover using this pillow cover sewing tutorial or buy one like I did here.
- Paint the stencil with the color of your choice. I used black paint for the words and red paint for the heart.
- You may want to put a piece of cardboard in between the two layers of pillow material so the paint doesn’t bleed through to the back of the pillow.
- Let dry. And add a pillow insert.
PILLOW COVER
Then after it has dried completely, put your pillow insert in the pillow cover and display in your child’s room, nursery or family room. Right now it is sitting in our family room. We had it there for Valentine’s as part of our decor…but I have left it out on display because it makes me happy when I see it. Great reminder of when my babies…were…well babies. I kinda miss that stage!
One of my favorite things about working with Cricut is that you can now MAKE this EXACT project with the click of one button on your own Cricut Explore Machine. Seriously…how awesome is that?!
It will cut out exactly how I have it here, or you can change it up a bit to fit the size and needs of your own style. Want to print it out for a painted sign? Or put on a blanket? You can do that too…
And? Starting today, through 1/29/19, Cricut is featuring some amazing deals on their machines! This sale features the Cricut Maker starting at $399, Explore Air 2 at $199, Easypress 2 starting at $109, and Brightpad starting at $59. It’s is a great time to buy a Cricut Machine if you have been thinking about getting one! Perfect for organizing all the things! Use the code LOVECRICUT to get the sale price!
BUSHEL AND A PECK LYRICS
A Bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck
A Hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap
A Barrel and a heap and I’m talkin’ in my sleep
‘Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
You bet your purdy neck I do
A doodle oodle oh
A doodle oodle oodle oh doo
A bushel and a peck though you make my heart a wreck
Make my heart a wreck and you make my life a mess
Make my life a mess, yes a mess of happiness
‘Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
You bet your purdy neck I do
A doodle oodle ooh doo
A doodle oodle oodle ooh doo
A bushel…

I am so glad you love it! Wish we were neighbors! Thanks so much for the sweet comment.
Oh my goodness. It’s so cool to know that so many mamas sang this to their children. My mom sang it to me all the time and I sang it to my kids. What a great phrase to put on display. Makes me smile remembering my mom.
That is why I enjoy having it in my home too….it makes me smile when I see it and remember my childhood and my babies!
My grandmother used to sing this to me!! I would love one of these pillows, but I don’t have one of those machines….how can I get this pillow??!!!
ha! You could try making your own stencil? I will see if I can provide it in a pdf file.
Love this. Hope you can download the PDF for this. Another favorite phrase that would be great is
“I Love You to the Moon and Back” I could really stay busy making pillows for both of these. :)
I use to sing this song to my kids all the time too! Love the pillow. Too cute!
Thank you Leigh Anne!! You are so sweet! xo
Love the song & pillow!
Thanks so much Crystal! I always appreciate your comments!
Love this! My mom always sings this song to my kids. I’m thinking I just found the perfect Mother’s Day gift! =)
Great idea! I think I will make one for my mom and sisters this year!!
Do you happen to remember the font used in this project. I can never remember a good font for stenciling. Thank you!!
Yes I do! It is called Cricut Classic and is available in the Cricut Design Space.
Your pillow is so cute Amy! Isn’t the Explore machine amazing. I love it!
xoxo
Yes!! Thanks so much Jen! Can’t wait to see your projects :)
My mom used to sing this to us when we were kids too. It immediately put a smile on my face to see this pillow. Anyway you would consider making a pillow cover that I could buy from you. I am not crafty.
I love it so much!
Thank you Kellee!
Oh, I love this! What a great idea! I love that song and it’s gorgeous on the pillow!
My 3 year old would LOVE this pillow (if she could read?) :) We listen to that song a lot!! Love the drop cloth for a pillow case idea too! :)
Just adorable!!
Please tell me that you make and sell these????
True story my last name is Peck, when I was pregnant with my third child I jokingly told my mom and sister that if I had a little girl I would call her Bushalana so I could sing “I love you Bushalana Peck” I didn’t, of course, but I have used the name as her loving nickname over the years.
MUST know where you got the adorable yellow chair! Please?
I got it online at Target.com a couple of years ago and have absolutely LOVED it! It is the perfect yellow color. Unfortunately I have not seen it on their site for a while now.
Could never make this in a million years!! Are you selling them? (Or will you?)
Any suggestions on an easy way to make a stencil for those of us without a Cricut?
Hi, this is a very cute and easy idea! My grandmother used to say this to us every time we left :) I don’t have a Cricut though. Could you scan your vinyl stencil into a pdf or word document? Then it could be used as a template to cut a plain piece of vinyl to stencil.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Heather
This is adorable!! My mother-in-law always sang this to my babies. Precious memories. I would LOVE to make this for Valentines this year but I don’t have a Cricut. Is the stencil template available in a pdf?
I am a fan on Facebook, and I always look forward to seeing what you will post next. :-) Thank you for sharing all your creativity and the yummy recipes.
Blessings from South Texas.
Thank you for the sweet comment! I will try to see if I can get it converted to a pdf! I will post it on FB if and when I get it!!
I used to sing this to my kids and now sing it to my grandchildren. I want to make a bunch. I would love a circuit as my old hands don’t cut the letters so good anymore!! I do a lot of appliques so PDF would be great. Love your site!
How fun and cute! I am sharing this on Pinterest
Thanks for sharing!
I would absolutely love to make this but I don’t have that machine. Can I buy the stencil from you ?
This grandma wants to make one.
I don’t have the stencil. You can find someone that has a vinyl cutter and buy from them. It seems like there are a lot of people that have a cutter.
Thank you for sharing this. My grandmother use to say this to me all the time. The memory of it brought tears to my eyes.
Renee- Awe… that is so sweet. So happy you liked the post.
My Mom (I’m 72) sang it to me and I sang to my kids then to my grands (oldest 22), and now to the surprise grandson (3 yo). BUT I don’t know the words. I just sing I love you a bushel and a peck, bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, I love you. Does anyone know the words? Got to make this pillow and thanks for the beautiful idea.
My grandkids and I say “I love you more than toast” It started when my youngest grandchild was about2 and he just want more toast for breakfast. and I said to him, “You must really love toast!” He said, “Grandma, i love you more than toast!” So the other’s chimed in that they also loved me mre than toast,. They were 2, 3, 4 and 5. They are now 12 , 13, 14 and 15. I still say it to them!
I love this saying!! You can’t find cute pillows like that, so how fun to make it yourself!
I always sing this to my kids- I need to make this!!!
Super cute!! I’d love this on a pillow :)
Thank you!
I just found the most darling old family video of my 2 year old (now 9 year old) singing this. Now I really do have to make this for her!
That is the sweetest!!
I love this saying! I need this on each of my kids beds!
Kristyn- Your kids would love that! Great idea!
One of the cutest little sayings!! I need to put one on a shirt, too!
Natalie- A shirt with this saying on would be so cute! Great idea!
I am 81 years old and my father used to sing this song to me. I sang it to my five children and to my nine grandchildren. And, they sing it to their children. It is so nice to hear that this simple song has touched so many lives. Love the pillow. Thank you for sharing.
Love this! Thank you for sharing your story!
