Halloween is right around the corner. Here is a cute and easy Halloween crafts and decoration you can make in less than a half an hour.

You will need a glass block (mine measured 7 1/2 inches) with a hole drilled in the bottom (I found mine at Ben Franklin),

2 sheets of green Velum paper

a Frankenstein silhouette

Modge Podge

a small string of christmas lights.

**Edit–Print the Frankenstein on a laser printer or copy it to prevent the ink from smearing when using the Mod Podge.

Take your green Velum and cut each piece into a square measuring 6 3/4 inches x 6 3/4 inches. Modge Podge them onto each flat section of glass (front and back). After allowing it to dry, take your Frankenstein silhouette that you have cut out of black paper and Modge Podge it onto the front of the glass.

I either found you through infarrantly creative or Thrifty Decor Chick. :) You're now on my Google Reader! However, your RSS feed only comes through as the post title alone…could you switch your feed setting to full posts, pretty please? Thanks!

(I may have already posted a comment about that, but who can remember what one posts during late-night NAK sessions? LOL)

Okay, I LOVE THIS! I am going to post about this on my blog tomorrow! So cute.

  14. 15

VERY cute idea. Question: Couldn't you just print the Frankenstein on one piece of the vellum, and therefore eliminate one step? Just wondering if that would work. Thanks!!!

I have had a few people wanting to make these but can purchase glass blocks around them. I found a place that sells them online. The prices look pretty good but I did not see how much shipping was. They even have green blocks! Here is the link:

Martha–I like the idea of painting your block green!

Gabby–Yes you could just print it onto green velum. I like to do things the hard way! Just Kidding! I didn't think of doing that! Great idea!

    Woman Interrupted says:

I love this craft!! I use one of these glass blocks with white lights as a christmas decoration. So I was wondering if anyone can think of a way to modify this idea so that the frankenstein could be removed and re-adhered without permanently commiting my glass block?

  18. 19

Woman Interrupted, maybe you could print the graphic and a green background onto inkjet cling film ( like this ) so you could remove it easily.

    Love this craft!

Emily–That is a great idea! You could use your block for every holiday and just change out the picture…Hmmmm! This is why I love blogs!

  22. 23

I just tried to download the Frankenstein and the file is not there. What am i doing wrong? And could you maybe send me a copy? I bought all the stuff today thinking I could do it but now i cant. :(

  23. 24

Very cute idea! Does anyone know where I can purchase green velum? I looked at Hobby Lobby and did not find it.

  24. 25
    Petit Debutant says:

couldn't you print the outline directly onto the vellum paper?

  25. 26

How do the lights work? Do they go inside the block? Sorry for the dumb question LOL!

  26. 27

I LOVE this it is soooooo cool!!! I can't wait to make it for my best girlfriend who LOVES Halloween! Thanks for sharing! ;-)

  27. 28

Cromines–velum can be found at most stores that carry scrapbook paper. They even have sticky back velum that would eliminate the need for Modge Podge, but I couldn't find the sticky back.

Petit–Yes you could! However I wasn't smart enough to think about it when I made it! LOL

Barb–The lights are placed into the hole inside the glass block. I should have mentioned that.

  28. 29

Oops…I forgot to answer Mattie. I have checked the site to download the frankenstein silohuette and it is still there. Did you try again? If it still does not work email me and I would be happy to send it to you. Same goes for anyone else who may be having trouble.

  29. 30

Thanks Amy! I guess I've never seen a real-live-glass block before. I'm going to try this idea with my students. Your site is amazing by the way!

  30. 31

I saw this on One Pretty Thing and wanted to pop over and say how very much I like your project. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

  31. 32

I love it. I posted my version of it here http://www.onedayiwanna.blogspot.com. I was wondering did you make your own image or find it somewhere. I want to do another block with a different image and can't find one, i'm looking for a silly face scarecrow.
    TIA

Cute Idea. A gentleman was selling some glass blocks w/the lights at work decorated w/pretty wired ribbon to look like Christmas presents. Loved those too. This gives ideas for other seasons as well. Thanks!

  33. 34

I wanted to ask where you got your image from? Did you freehand it? I belong to a monthly craft club and this will be our october project. After I got the example put together I have had a ton on the girls ask if we could use the tall block and make a bride of frankenstein to go with frank! I actually used my vinyl cutter and cut out my image to make things much easier for all of us!! It has been huge hit! Every one is soo excited!! Thanks!

  34. 35

    that is just too cute!
