I have had this project in my head for a long, long time. I love, LOVE, LOVE fun containers and wood crates. If you are new here, and you enjoy wood crates like I do, you might want to check out a couple of my past wood crate projects…vintage wood crate and my table centerpiece wood box.
Well, this month as one of Lowe’s Creative Bloggers, I was challenged to make something for Valentine’s Day. I had all these cute tissue paper rosette balls from my past Valentine’s Day décor that I wanted to include in my Valentine’s Day Décor. I had been placing them in a small wooden tray.
Then realized that I finally had an excuse to get “motivated” to make this vintage Valentines Day crate with chicken wire I had been wanting to make. Yay! I love when I get to make something that keeps swirling around in my head. Does anyone else have this problem?
I purchased some wood and some chicken wire from Lowe’s and finally bought myself a staple gun that wasn’t an old hand me down that got jammed with every other staple.
It was a pretty easy project. I just built a basic box. I did want the top to be longer than the bottom so that there were some angles involved that I had to figure out…and it did make my head hurt a little bit. But I figured it out and only had to use a little caulk in a couple of places to make up for a little wonkiness.
I love that this wooden crate is so versatile. I will be able to use it for all seasons and be able to keep it out on display as a permanent part of my living room…which is under a makeover of its own!! We repainted this room to a nice creamy light gray/bone color…which I LOVE!!! Hopefully we will be finishing it up here by the end of February! Fingers crossed!
And…I had to do a little bit of creative cropping on these photos. My new kitchen table (which we had hoped to get finished before Thanksgiving…ha) is sitting on my living room floor. We have the top of the table all glued together. These projects take FOREVER!
But…one thing at a time right? Anyways…I will be sharing a full tutorial for this wooden crate later next week. And, my daughter who was hanging out with me while I was snapping pictures decided to make an appearance when I was shooting. Ha! I love that girl!
Thanks Lowe’s! Be sure to check out Lowe’s Creative Ideas Magazine and sign up for them if you haven’t. They are free and have a lot of fun projects in them!

Thanks Crystal! I am pretty happy with how it turned out! Thanks for commenting!
okay, I have to ask…where did you get that beautiful red pillow? Did you make it? I need one of those!
I got that at Target. It normally resides on my couch downstairs but for Valentine’s Day I like to bring it upstairs where people actually see it. I got it about 3 or so years ago.
What a cute project, thanks for sharing it Amy! Check out more Valentine’s Day crafts that are fun for the whole family here: http://www.care.com/child-care-41-easy-diy-valentines-day-crafts-for-kids-p1017-q24629994.html
Love your box! So versatile for different holidays!
Thanks Ariean! I am excited about that too. Makes it fun to be able to use if for other things all year long! Thanks for the comment!
Where did you get your couch?
We found a couch body style that we liked at RC Willey but didn’t like the material it was in. We were able to custom order it with our material choice.
This is beautiful. I love that you could use the cart for all seasons. I am pinning this for later because I love how versatile this is.
Love, Love, Love this!!! Okay, took my 3 days but my rosette balls are all complete and I am sitting on the edge of my seat – can’t wait for the crate with chicken wire tutorial!!
Oh yay!! I am working on the tutorial. Those rosette balls do take a bit of time don’t they. Hope you caught up on some chick flicks! I will post it within the next few days!! :)
Hi did you post the tutorial for the crate with the chicken wire…..super cute but i cant find it! Thanks
I LOVE the rosette balls! I have been wanting to make some for years but never get around to it… maybe this year I will. I might have to talk to my kids about that… lol it might not be on their agenda. ;)
haha! I hope you get to make some! xo
Wondering if you ever posted the tutorial for this Valentine chicken wire crate? Wondering what size wood you used and what size you made your box; would like to make one
Love the crate, and love the idea of using it as the basis for a seasonal theme; i actually thought it was made up of old picture frames (i bought a lot from the dollar store). Even easier :-)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words! I thought I had shared the tutorial and had every intention of sharing it…but couldn’t find it anywhere! I must have forgotten!
