Frankenstein Oreo Pops

Apparently I have a sickness and an obsession…

and I can’t stop!

I lay awake at night, when I should be sleeping…

Dreaming up different ways to decorate Oreo’s on a Stick…

Check out the latest version of Oreo Pops…another idea to add to your collection of Halloween Snacks and Treats…

Halloween-treats

Take some Double Stuff Oreos and put them on a popsicle stick.

Find some “Spooky Green” candy melts and melt a few in the microwave in 20 second intervals.

Dip the Oreos in the green candy and set to dry on parchment paper.

Add two eyes and his head screws which are simply mini chocolate chips.

Then I pop mine into the freezer because I have no patience for things like that.

Remove from the freezer after about 20 minutes and melt some regular milk chocolate,

in the microwave in 20 second intervals.

Chocolate chips seem to work great.

Take a spoon and drizzle it on the top of the Oreo to make

Frank some hair!

Take an Edible Marker (Wilton sells them) and give him a mouth.

Frankenstein-treats

What did one of Frankenstein’s ears say to the other?

I didn’t know we lived on the same block.

What does Frankenstein’s monster call a screwdriver?

Daddy.

Halloween Mummy Pizza and Mummy Dogs

halloween-mummy-pizza

At our house, we have a Halloween feast. It is usually done sometime within the week before Halloween. I have already shared with you a couple of our feast items like the edible worms and eyeballs. For the main portion of the meal we usually make individual Mummy Pizzas or Mummy Dogs.

To make Mummy Pizzas just take some bagels and spread spaghetti sauce on each half. Place whatever toppings you would like on top of the sauce (ie. ham, pepperoni, pineapple, etc). Then take a stick of sting cheese and tear it into strips. Lay the strips on the bagel so that it looks like the mummy rags. Then place in the oven on broil for 5-8 minutes. Watch closely so that they don’t burn. We caught ours just in time! The best part is that each child can make their own just how they like it!

To make Mummy Dogs you will need some bread dough and hot dogs. We used a store bought tube of Pillsbury crescent dough. Wrap the dough around each hot dog so that they look like mummies. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Add drops of ketchup or mustard for eyes.

Halloween-food

I like to label all the food we eat at our feast with some marshmallow ghosts. I save them and use them each year. I just took some large marshmallows and added eyes with a Sharpie. Then I just printed the name of the food item on some red scrapbook paper and tore it around the edges and attached it to a popsicle stick which I inserted into the marshmallow. (I realize you could have figured all that out by looking at the picture…but just in case)!

I also found a fun link that has quite a few ideas for some Halloween cupcakes here.

Edible Witch Fingers!

Witch-Finger-Cookies

Make some YUMMY edible finger cookies or witch’s fingers as they are referred to at our house,. I made these first ones using a cheap ($1.29) mold I found at JoAnn’s. They were really easy.

Finger-Cookie-Molds

I just used some white chocolate chips that I melted in the microwave. Melt them in a microwaveable bowl in 20 second intervals, stirring each time you remove from the microwave. I then colored some of the melted chocolate red and left the rest white. I used pretzel rods and placed them in the molds. Let cool in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

If you don’t have a mold or do not want to buy one then use this alternative. Take your pretzel rods and break them in half. Using melted chocolate chips (or candy melts, almond bark) color some red like above. Dip the rod in the red chocolate and lay on a cookie sheet that is covered with a layer of wax paper. Let them cool in fridge for 20 minutes. After they are hardened, melt some more chocolate chips and leave white. Dip the red rods into the white and leave about a 1/2 inch of red at the top of the white so that it looks like bloody flesh (gross…I know). While the chocolate is still warm take slivered almonds and place at the top of the rod for the fingernails. I did some plain, and some I previously painted red with food coloring to simulate red nail polish. I like them both ways. Place in refrigerator and let cool for another 20 minutes. (Sorry about the picture. It is hard to see the details on this. I took this picture last year).

I have also made these witch finger cookies from Martha Stewart. She calls them Lady Finger cookies. I could not find the picture I took of mine last year so I borrowed the one from Martha’s website. They turn out really fun although mine were a little flatter than Martha’s picture. Click here for the recipe.

And last but not least, have you tried to take a picture of your kids and their jack-o-lanterns? Turn out all the lights and add a candle so that you can see you child’s face and the pumpkin at the same time. Turn your flash off and shoot away!
