A DELICOUS TWIST ON CARAMEL POPCORN
Looking for a delicious and tasty snack? At our house we love popcorn. We eat it quite often with just butter and salt, but sometimes it is fun to take your popcorn game up a notch or two. On special occasions we like to make our favorite Homemade Moose Munch.
WHAT IS MOOSE MUNCH POPCORN?
If you haven’t heard of Moose Munch, it is a caramel popcorn recipe with added nuts and a drizzle of chocolate. It’s pretty fancy and makes a great treat for a group of people. I have also made some and given it away as a gift for friends and family!
WHY IS IT CALLED MOOSE MUNCH POPCORN?
As far as I could find, the origination of Moose Munch Popcorn started with the famous company Harry & David who are well know for their delicious gourmet fruits, snacks and treats for the Holiday season. I found this statement on their site.
“The name Moose Munch was inspired by our beautiful home here in the Pacific Northwest. We liked the idea of creating a snack that was so delicious even the moose would want to munch on it. Originally when we made Moose Munch Popcorn, we were trying to replicate an existing recipe.” -Harry and David

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THIS MOOSE MUNCH POPCORN RECIPE
Follow these instructions for making this moose munch popcorn
- Pop 3/4 cup unpopped popcorn, remove any unpopped kernels. Mix in your pecans, peanuts and almonds and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt your butter, then add the brown sugar and light Karo syrup.
- Stir together and bring to boil for five minutes.
- Remove from the stove and immediately stir in the baking soda, vanilla and salt.
- Stir until well combined and smooth.
- Pour the hot caramel over the popcorn and nuts in a large bowl and mix until the popcorn and nuts are well coated.
- Separate into two sheet pans and bake in a 200° oven for one hour stirring every 15 minutes. *I line my baking sheets with a SiliconBakingMat which allows the melted chocolate to come off the sheet pan easily and not stick to the pan.
- After baking the popcorn, drizzle the melted chocolate chips over one of the pans of popcorn and let it sit until the chocolate has hardened. *To speed it up, you can place it in the freezer or the refrigerator.
- Break up the popcorn and mix it together in a large bowl!
- Serve and enjoy!

HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL POPCORN
You can change it up and throw in cashews, or use white chocolate if you don’t like milk chocolate. You can throw in cranberries and raisins for a completely different version that would be just as tasty! But our family enjoys the chocolate and caramel version the best!

Your recipe never says when to add the peanuts, would they not go in when the other nuts are added?
The Idea Room Assistant says
Liz- Yes, thank you for letting me know that I missed that. I just added it in!
Wow! What a great treat. We all enjoyed this for our new pandemic friendly stay home Friday movie night. I made it the day before….let it cool well before storing….and it was still good. Thank you .
Jennifer- So happy you and your family loved it!
I’m just curious on why you only drizzle chocolate on one of the pans? I’m looking forward to making this soon.
Hope- You could definitely drizzle the chocolate over both pans. I just prefer a little bit of chocolate on the recipe. A little chocolate goes a long way.Enjoy!
If I want to make this as Christmas gifts, how far in advance can I make it and how should I store it to keep it fresh?
I would make it a couple of days before giving it away.
