APPLE NACHOS
Have you ever tried them? You NEED too! They are so simple to make and you can totally customize them to your taste preferences and dietary needs.
Apple Nachos are one of my very favorite snacks. I love that they give me the sweet flavor I am craving without a lot of the calories of some other snack choices.
And just because Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, I thought it would be fun to make a Valentine’s Day Apple Nachos version. It is a fun and festive way to celebrate the Valentine’s Day Holiday with a healthier snack idea with your significant other.
CARAMEL APPLE NACHO TOPPINGS
I LOVE to use granny smith apples with a mix of fuji or honey crisp apples. I love the tart and crispy texture it adds to the apple nachos. We also love to drizzle our favorite homemade caramel sauce (recipe coming), melted chocolate and sometimes peanut butter or almond butter that has been melted.
There are many different types of toppings you can add on your caramel apple nachos. Here is a list of some of our favorites.
- caramel
- chocolate
- white chocolate
- toffee bits
- almonds
- pecans
- walnuts
- m&m’s
- mini chocolate chips
- crushed pretzels
- butterscotch chips
- coconut
- crushed Oreo cookies
Really, the options are endless. Just throw on your favorites!
HOW DO YOU KEEP THE APPLES FROM TURNING BROWN?
The best way to prevent the apple slices from browning is to toss them in a bowl filled with a little bit of cold water mixed with 1-2 Tbsp of lemon juice. This will prevent the apples from getting brown and will keep them looking pretty and fresh. Simply drain the apples and then lay them on a paper towel before placing them onto your cookie sheet.
HOW TO MELT CARAMELS
- Unwrap the KRAFT Caramels by gently squeezing the sides of the caramels and then peeling off the wrappers. Be sure to unwrap all of the caramels before melting.
- Place the unwrapped caramels into a medium-sized saucepan and add 2 tablespoons of water.
- Cook the caramels over medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes.
- Stir constantly until the caramel is fully melted

HOW TO MAKE APPLE NACHOS
There are a few simple steps you will need to follow to make your apple nachos. You can use a Homemade Caramel Sauce if you have a recipe you love or you want to use this one I have shared earlier. This time I was in hurry so I melted down some store bought caramels. I have provided directions below to show you how to melt store bought caramels easily below.
- Spray a double boiler pan (or saucepan) with an oil spray.
- Melt caramels or make homemade caramel.
- Cover cookie sheet with tinfoil.
- Spread thinly sliced apples over the cookie sheet.
- Drizzle caramel over the sliced apples.
- Melt chocolate and drizzle it over the sliced apples.
- Add other toppings to the sliced apples as desired.
- Serve immediately.
HEART APPLE SLICES
Slice the apples and then cut out the centers with a heart cookie cutter. Throw out the ones that have the seeds from the core in it, but save the other heart cut outs and place them around your platter. The hearts that have the red and green skins can be placed in the heart cut outs to add some fun color to the tray.

HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE
This Homemade Caramel Sauce is delicious, easy to make and better than store bought. Option to make it salted caramel too if you like Salted Caramel Sauce!
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 12 Tbs butter (unsalted), room temperature, cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp sea salt (optional, for salted caramel sauce)
Instructions
-
In a medium-large sauce pan, stir the sugar over medium-high heat until melted. Watch closely so it doesn’t burn.
-
Once sugar is melted, and right as the sugar turns amber in color, add the butter and whisk vigorously. It will bubble up a lot but this is normal, just keep whisking until all the butter has melted.
-
Remove pan from heat and slowly pour in the cream while whisking vigorously. Mixture will bubble again. Be sure to continue whisking until fully mixed in.
-
Immediately whisk in the vanilla and the sea salt (if making salted caramel sauce).
-
Set the sauce aside and allow to cool for 15 minutes, then pour into a glass jar to cool completely.
-
Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 weeks.
-
To reuse, simply heat the sauce pack up in a sauce pan over low heat or in the microwave at 5-10 second intervals, stirring in between each session.
Go and make some now! You will be glad you did!
