Hey! I’m Nikkala from The Crafting Chicks and I’m happy to be visiting The Idea Room today!
The 4th of July sneaks up on me every year. I always try to wait to decorate for a holiday until the beginning of the month of that holiday, and well, 4 days isn’t a long time to enjoy red, white and blue decorations. If you’re like me and haven’t decorated yet, or even if you have, this banner comes together really quickly thanks to painters tape and spray paint so you can get it done and hanging before today is over!
Supplies for Patriotic Banner
- muslin fabric
- painters tape
- red spray paint
- blue spray paint
Cut the muslin into triangles. I completely free handed this whole project. It isn’t perfect but adds to the rustic, Americana feel. Just make the triangles the same size, however big or small you would like them.
For the striped pennants, add strips of painters tape. Try to keep them evenly spaced, but again it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Layer 3 pieces of painters tape to make a larger piece and cut the star out. I have a really hard time with free handing stars so some of mine are wonky, but when it is all put together you don’t really notice. Put the star in the middle of the pennant.
Take outside and spray paint. If you have a big piece of cardboard you can lay out all of one color and go to town. It will only take a few minutes to cover a lot of pennants.
Wait for the paint to dry. Once the paint is dry you can remove the tape.
String them altogether. I used a large needle and bakers twine to create my banner. You can see I had a little bit of paint bleed, and they are far from perfect, but I love it!
