As promised, I am sharing a fun Halloween Printable today! I have always wanted to have a Halloween Potions Book to be able to display as part of our Halloween Apothecary, which I like to pull out every year. I had looked around for one but only found ones that didn’t really fit what I had been picturing in my mind…Does that ever happen to you?
I always like things that look authentic, rather than plastic-y, so I finally decided it was time to try to make my own. I am really happy with how it turned out!
The first thing I did was head to the Thrift Store. I was on a mission to find some OLD looking books with a black hard cover. I was looking for the standard size book so that I could make a cover that would fit it easily with a regular sheet of printer paper. I found THREE books that were perfect. The edges of the book paper was turning yellow and there were a few stains and tears…perfect for portraying a centuries old Poisons & Potions Book!
You can see the other two books in the pictures. I made another Spells and Enchantment Book that I will also be sharing a printable for! Yay!!
*UPDATE- The Spells and Enchantments Book can be downloaded here:
The Potions Book is really easy to make and literally just takes minutes to make.
1. Print on Regular White Paper (the front and back book covers).
2. Cut around the book cover with scissors.
3. Place the front cover on the front of your book and make sure you have enough paper to go around the back spine of your book so there is some overlap onto the back of the book.
4. Then fold the front cover around the front of the book.
5. Take the back cover and glue it onto the folded portion of the front cover on the backside of the book.
6. Wrap the back of the book cover around the bottom flap of the book.
*I crumpled the book cover just a bit and added a couple of tiny tears to give the Potions Book a weathered look too.
That is it!! Easiest project ever!!!
I found the crow at the Dollar Store and knew he had to be a part of our Halloween Apothecary! I keep the bottles each year and then pull them out and add colored water or the fun and creepy insects which I have also found at the Dollar Store. I was super excited to find some rubber earth worms from the Dollar Store as well this year! The Love Potion #9 printable was from a Valentine’s Day post that I shared a while ago, but also can work for your Halloween Apothecary.
I found some eyeball gumballs here on Amazon. I will be sharing a post with another Halloween project using these same eyeball gum balls at a later time too…so stay tuned for that!
This spider is so cute…well…if spiders can be cute. I made this by simply painting a flat round rock black and then gluing some bent bobby pin legs to the bottom of the spider!
