Grapefruit Sugar Scrub Recipe

There are a few things that I get obsessed with…right now it’s Grapefruit.  I am LOVING it!  It is perfect right now.  I have always been obsessed with citrusy fruit and the scent of citrus.  It smells so fresh and clean and makes me feel happy and invigorated.

Sugar-scrub-recipe

You know how much I enjoy making my sugar scrubs and I had yet to make one with Grapefruit…so here it is ;)!

homemade-sugar-scrub

Grapefruit Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup raw sugar

up to 1/4 cup almond oil

3-4 drops Grapefruit

1 drop of food coloring (no more or it will stain skin) or drop of raspberry juice

2-3 drops of Vitamin E (optional)

Directions:  Mix the sugars together and slowly add the almond oil until you reach the consistency you like.  I like my scrubs less oily so I always use less than a 1/4 cup.  Add Grapefruit Essential Oil, food coloring and Vitamin E if adding.  Mix thoroughly and store in an airtight container.  Good for up to 3 months if kept bacteria free.

To use:  Rub a little bit of the scrub on your body or between your hands with a little bit of water.  Rinse with warm water to remove excess oils.  It will give your skin a nice exfoliation and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth and smelling fresh and clean.  Great for use in the shower or bath and before bed time.

Cinnamon Vanilla Sugar Scrub

You guys know I love me a good sugar scrub.  I love to play around with some of the different DoTerra Essential Oils I have and make sugar scrubs that smell delicious but also provide the benefits of the various oils.

cinnamon-sugar-scrub

I personally love the scent of Cinnamon AND the scent of Vanilla.  They remind me of the holidays and winter time.  So I decided to make a Cinnamon Vanilla Sugar Scrub…and let me tell you…this one smells so good!  I think it is now my favorite so far.

DIY-sugar-scrub

Isn’t she pretty to look at too?  I love the texture of this one.  This sugar scrub is a little bit different than my other ones because I added some Raw Cane Sugar.  This sugar has a larger granule and I love the feeling and the exfoliation it along with the smaller granules of the white sugar.

Here is the recipe:

Cinnamon Vanilla Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup White Sugar

1/2 cup Raw Cane Sugar (baking aisle)

up to 1/4 cup oil (Olive Oil, Almond Oil, or Coconut Oil)

1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract or Essential Oil

2-3 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil (I love DoTerra’s)

dash of cinnamon (optional)

Simply mix all the sugars and the vanilla and the essential oils.  Then gradually add the oil base mixing while pouring.  Add the oil until you are happy with the texture and consistency of the scrub.  I like mine a little on the non-oily side.  But it is just a matter of preference really.

To use, simply gather a small amount in your fingertips or with a small spoon.  Rub together in your hands and scrub your skin with it.  Rinse off with warm water.  This will leave your skin feeling so silky soft and smelling like cinnamon and vanilla.

Gift it this year to your family and friends.  They will love it!  Or gift it to yourself!

Are you guys ready for another Sugar Scrub? There is just something about the Summer Season right upon us that has me craving a good scrub.  This Brown Sugar Scrub is actually a reposting of one of my very first Sugar Scrubs when I first started blogging.

Brown-sugar-scrub 2

My photo skills have come a long way since then.  And I have been dying to make this scrub again and take better photos.  I finally got around to doing it.

Brown-sugar-scrub 7

This recipe is really simple and I have found that my very favorite oil to use for scrubs is coconut oil.  I did not know about coconut oil 3 years ago so I have made the change in the old recipe.

1 cup Brown Sugar

1/4 cup Coconut Oil (melted)

With Mother’s Day this weekend, it’s time to start thinking about gifts for the special women in your lives.  Now, I don’t know about you…but as a Mother myself, I prefer gifts that are of the pampering kind.  I have been obsessed with using DoTerra Essential Oils and just got some Lime oil.  It smells AMAZING!  So…I made a Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub.

Coconut-Lime-Sugar-Scrub 6

If you have been hanging around The Idea Room, you have been aware of my Sugar Scrub obsession.  At the bottom of this post, I will share with you my entire collection of Sugar Scrubs so that you can take a look at them if you are interested.

Since my food allergy diagnosis, I have incorporated Coconut Oil as my main cooking/baking base and I am in LOVE with it.  It is the perfect oil to use in this scrub because it has a slight scent and leaves the sugar a nice, crisp white.  It also leaves your freshly scrubbed skin feeling soft and smooth.

Coconut-Lime-Sugar-Scrub 13

Plus, the combination of Lime and Coconut scream summer, which we are totally looking forward to at our house.  I also threw in some fresh grated coconut to give the scrub a little more texture.

You just might want to eat this stuff…which would totally be fine since everything is edible :)!

All you need is a cute jar and a label, which I am providing as a free download (see below for link) and you have a great gift for that special Mother or woman in your life.  You will want to make a really big batch so you can keep some for yourself!

Or if you want to get really creative, you could gift your sugar scrub inside of a coconut shell after the fresh coconut meat has been removed.  Then wrap it up with a cellophane wrapper and a cute little tag.

DIY Labeled Bathroom Jars

Today I would love to share with you how I made these labeled bath jars.

bath jars 1wm

I like to have pretty matching sets rather than big, bulky bottles cluttering my spaces…don’t you?  But all the sets I have seen were really expensive.  Then I saw this picture from Country Living.  I had my next project!

I looked around online for various bottles and in my local thrift store but couldn’t find anything that was pretty or in my budget.  Then one day while I was shopping I had the idea to look at the various glass food jars.  I was surprised at just how many styles there were but none of them were just right.  I had almost given up until I turned down the last aisle and lo and behold I spied these beauties!!!

bath jars 5wm

It was the perfect size and shape and there were exactly 4 bottles.  The labels looked easy to remove and there were no upraised markings in the bottle…PERFECT!  Now only if I drank coffee ;).  No worries…I gave the coffee to my friend and saved the bottles for myself!

bath jars 7wm

I removed the labels and took off the residual glue with this Goo Gone.  I already had this on hand and originally bought it from Home Depot.  It works like a charm.  Then I thoroughly washed the bottles and then let them dry.

bath jars 8wm

Then I created some labels on my Silhouette machine and cut them out in black vinyl.  I also cut them out in white vinyl as well.

bath jar labelswm

I took the inside of the white label and put it on the jars first.  Then I took the black label and put it on top of the white label, kind of like a little puzzle.  The reason I did this is that I wanted the labels to stand out really well on the bottle.  I thought about just cutting out a white square of vinyl but the borders of each frame were really different and this just seemed easier.  Of course you can just place the black vinyl on and not use the white vinyl.

bath jars 4wm

I wanted to cover up the writing on each of the lids so I simply spray painted them white and let them dry thoroughly.  Then I simply filled each jar with my favorite bath products.

I love how fresh and clean it looks.  Isn’t that so much better than a bunch of big and bulky bottles?

I have made my label file available for you to download for those of you who would like to make your own labels.

**If you don’t have a Silhouette Machine, you can still make these.  Simply download the PSD labels and print them out.  Then simply cover the tops of the label with a few layers of Mod Podge (let dry between each coat) and then cut the labels out.  To apply to the bottles add a small amount of glue like E 6000 or other water proof glues.
