Happy Fourth of July! I hope you are all having a great day of celebration! Celebrate with some delicious Belgium Waffles!
We just got back home from a trip to California with my husband’s side of the family. While we are there my Mother-In-Law spoils us rotten with our meals. One morning I enjoyed this Belgium Waffle while sitting out on her fun blue bridge she has that crosses over the fun pond she has in her yard. Not a bad way to welcome the new day.
Belgium Waffle Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup plus 2 3/4 cups warm milk, divided
- 3 eggs, divided
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
Preparation:
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup warm milk. Beat the egg whites just until stiff peaks form. In a large bowl, mix together the egg yolks, 1/4 cup of the remaining milk, the melted butter and the sugar. Add the yeast mixture, salt, vanilla, and then alternate between the flour and remaining milk. Gently fold the egg whites into the waffle batter. Cover the batter without touching it, and then set it in a warm place to rise until it doubles in volume, about 1 hour. Cook in a waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Makes 8 servings.
I am not a huge fan of whipped cream, like some members of my family, so I added just a small dollop. But I am a fan of strawberry syrup!
These are so delicious. Sometimes we even serve these for dinner! What about you? Do you have a favorite breakfast food?

Just an FYI – it’s “Belgian Waffles”, not “Belgium Waffles.” Belgium is the country, but when describing items with the country denoting the kind of item, you should use Belgian, such as Belgian embassy, Belgian beer, Belgian waffles, Belgian exports, etc. Great looking recipe by the way – we’ll be trying it at our house.

I have made these twice now and they are excellent! They are great with any type of syrup, I love putting fresh strawberries and blueberries on them!
