WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO RECORD YOUR FAMILY STORY?
If you have been following along with me for a while, you know how important family is to me. Family is the core of my everyday life. Research has shown that strong families become the building blocks of society. Families become strong when each individual feels a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose within the family unit. The sharing of family stories within individual families provides the members a sense of identity through time, and help children understand who they are in the world.
The recent passing of my Dad (the young boy in the picture below) this past June, solidified the importance of sharing and recording my family stories. You always think you are going to have more time to capture moments and personal stories from your family members…until you don’t.
In the last few years of my Dad’s life, we tried to talk about a lot of his memories and get them written down, but with his history of strokes he had a difficult time recalling all the little details. We recorded them to the best of our ability, but wish we had made a bigger effort to record them when his memory was better. The stories we do have from my Dad have now become cherished memories.
WHAT IS STORYWORTH?
My mom, on the other hand, has been in the process of writing her story over the past several years. It can be a daunting task when you look trying record your life history. Just recently, I learned about StoryWorth, a company that believes in the importance of recording and sharing your story with future generations. They have simplified the art of sharing family stories, and I am excited about the ease of their program that ends with a beautiful printed book.
