Make this easy pizza dough recipe for your family and friends. It is so simple and quick and tastes delicious.
PIZZA DOUGH RECIPE
Do you love pizza? All of my kids LOVE it when we make homemade pizza. We even make our pizza dough from scratch most of the time. If you haven’t ever made pizza dough from scratch, you won’t believe how easy it is.
HOW TO MAKE PIZZA DOUGH
This homemade pizza dough is so easy to make and has a delicious flavor! This great pizza dough is soft and chewy with a delicious crisp and an unbeatable flavor! It can be made in your stand mixer with the dough hook attachment or by hand. We usually just mix it up by hand so that I don’t have to clean the mixer…is that lazy? haha!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 1/4 cups cold water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 cups unbleached bread flour
DIRECTIONS:
- Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water in a small bowl; let stand 5 minutes.
- Combine cold water, oil, sugar, and salt in a small bowl and stir together.
- Combine the flour, yeast mixture, and cold water mixture in large bowl and mix together until fully incorporated.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface from the left over flour. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 2 minutes). Add the rest of the flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, to prevent dough from sticking to hands (dough will feel sticky).
- Set dough aside while finishing your dinner prep if you are using the dough within the next hour to bake.
- Divide dough into two large balls and place on floured work surface. Then, with a rolling pin, roll out into two pizza crusts. Roll them thin as they will rise and thicken while baking. (or break into several small pizza dough balls for individual pizzas).
- Top the pizza crusts with your favorite toppings, place in the oven, and bake at 400 for 18-25 minutes depending on how thick the pizza crust is.
- If you are making the dough to use later, simply divide the dough in half (or more individual pieces), and place in a ziploc bag coated with cooking spray. Seal and chill in the fridge overnight or up to 2 days. Let stand at room temperature for 1 hour before using.
- You can freeze the dough in heavy-duty, freezer-safe zip-top plastic bags for up to 2 months; thaw dough overnight in the refrigerator.
MAKING HOMEMADE PIZZA
This homemade pizza dough tastes great paired with your favorite pizza sauce and pizza toppings! Simply roll out your pizza dough, spread on your sauce of choice, and throw on your favorite toppings!
You, of course, can use whatever pizza toppings you like. That is the great thing about homemade pizza–you can personalize it to exactly what you like! My family loves making homemade pizzas! Here are some of our favorite pizza toppings:
- Cheese
- Ham
- Mushrooms
- Olives
- Pepperoni
- Artichokes
- Peppers
- Tomatoes
- Basil
Once you have your pizza exactly how you like it, its time to bake it! If you like using a pizza stone or a pizza pan, place your pizza onto it using a pizza peel. If you don’t have a pizza peel, you can use a piece of parchment paper and it works just as great! If you don’t have a pizza pan, a baking sheet works just as great! Bake at 400 for 18-25 minutes depending on how thick the pizza crust is.
Now you have a delicious homemade pizza with your very own pizza dough!

Recipe Notes
- While I used bread flour, all-purpose flour will work just the same!
- This step is called proofing. When you proof yeast, you place it in warm water and let sit for a few minutes. Once it is foamy and creamy looking, you know the yeast is active and ready for baking.

Thank you so much Kristi! Hope you and your family love it!
I love your sugar and flour containers. How did you make those?
this week I made pizza with a 2 year old and a four year old. They made the dough themsleves – 1 cup of self raising flour (can be GF) + 1 cup of Greek yogurt. Doesn’t come much simpler than that. They then added their own topping choices – cheese, tomato, broccoli, pepperoni, spinach, basil, capsicum, and after baking, some avocado. Delish and a delight to see them ‘ baking’ . They ate the lot.
This post looks so yummy, until I can hardly wait to try making this dough. We love pizza, especially on Friday nights, our pizza night. Use to be on Thursday nights.
