This time of year is great for getting together with friends and family, but with the onset of the Holidays and Winter, our chances of getting sick increase. No one likes being sick…I always have too much to do and so being sick is something I try to avoid…like the plague (punny… hehe). But really, no one wants to get sick. So today I am sharing 6 Tips for Staying Healthy This Winter!
1. Get Plenty of Sleep.
Proper sleep can help keep the body’s immune system healthy and fight off any illness.
2. Wash Your Hands…often!
We know this one…but I’m not talking about just before dinner. We have a rule in my house: Anytime you walk in the door, you hang your coat and march to the sink to wash your hands. This may not be necessary for everyone, but an easy way to keep the germs away is to wash your hands with soap and water.
3. Use Hand Sanitizer.
If you can’t or don’t have access to soap and water to wash your hands, carry some hand sanitizer so you can de-germ after you have been in a public place and have been handling door knobs, shopping carts or the grocery store pen.
4. Eat Right.
It can be tempting to eat comfort foods that are high in fat during the winter months. Find comfort in foods like nourishing soups and stews full of flavor and healthy vegetables. Be sure your diet includes winter fruit and vegetables packed with vitamins and minerals.
5. Keep Moving.
While it’s a little harder to find the motivation to exercise when it is cold outside, remember that keeping active during winter is essential to support our health and wellbeing. Moving your exercise indoors during winter will help to keep you warm as well as fit and healthy.
6. Boost Your Immunity.
It’s important to take care of our health throughout the year but during the winter months it becomes even more essential. Eating well, getting enough sleep and staying active are all important during winter to help keep you and your family healthy and to support your immune systems.
One of my favorite ways to boost my immune system is by using DoTERRA’s On Guard. I was a bit skeptical about the ability of On Guard to help boost the immune system until I started using it. I swear it makes a big difference and we have had healthier winters in our family since we have been taking it.
When someone in the family begins to feel the beginning of an illness coming on, we immediately take On Guard. It really does make a difference. My husband also swears by it and has been sharing it with his co-workers when one of them ends up getting sick.
I also like to diffuse the On Guard oil in the main living areas in our home during the winter months to help boost our immunity. If someone does end up getting sick, I feel like the On Guard helps to ease the symptoms and the illness doesn’t last as long.
