SUGAR COOKIE BARS
Every Valentine’s Day we have a tradition of making our very favorite Sugar Cookies. These cookies are the best for cutting out into fun shapes and decorating with frosting. When the kids were younger we loved spending the afternoon baking them and decorating them together. When we have the time, they are still our favorite sugar cookie recipe to use.
However, as the kids have gotten older, our schedules and time have become harder to come by. So we have been making bars a LOT more often! I love them for several reasons. Not only do they taste amazing, but they are fast and easy! All the great taste and fun of a cut out cookie, but nowhere near the time and work to make them!
I also love that this batch of cookies can serve a large number of people. So when we had a recent family get together I brought this pan of cookies and there was enough for everyone with a few leftovers!

Fiona- So glad you like the recipe!
Thank you!!! I love that they are still fun but a LOT easier than pulling out the cookie cutters or individually rolling cookies. Perfect for V-day class parties.
Sugar cookie bars are my favorite!! I love making them, over sugar cookies. These are so soft & that frosting is delicious!

Kristyn- They really are so good and simple to make!
I’m not sure if some things got it in translation as I made these just now in the UK and it came out like a sheet cake. I was thinking they were meant to be more like a shortbread biscuit/cookie type texture but it’s definitely made a sponge.
Ami- It usually turns out more like a cookie/shortbread. Not sure why it was more cake like for you. Let me know if you have any questions about ingredients. Thank you.
I’m out of sour cream. Has anyone tried substituting plain yogurt? Thanks!
Jennifer- Yes you can sub plain yogurt for sour cream. Just use the same amount as posted in the recipe.
Love, love, love sugar cookie bars!! They are so much easier to make than sugar cookies & taste so good!
Natalie- They really are so easy to make!
My go-to treat all the time!! I seem to make them a few times a month!
