Learn how to make peach jam with our step by step instructions for the best peach jam. Flavorful with just the right amount of fruit to make a nice spread on toast or rolls…or eat it by the spoonful…we won’t judge.

We love a great homemade jam and peach jam is one of our favorites. There is nothing more delicious than a warm buttered roll smothered with a tasty peach jam. Now you can make it right at home with those fresh summer peaches.

How To Peel a Peach Easily
Peach peels can be difficult to remove from fresh peaches. We have tried peeling peaches a few different ways and have found a way that works the best for us.

You will need to boil a large pot of water. Then when the pot is in a rapid boil gently place your peaces into the pot with a strainer or tongs. Blanch the peaches by letting them sit in the boiling water for about a minute. Then pull the peaches out and place into an ice bath (we usually fill the sink with ice cold water).
Then slice the skin with a paring knife and the skin should easily pull away from the flesh of the peach.
Ways to Use Peaches
There are many ways to eat up your peaches if you have a large amount and are not sure what to do with them. You can always eat them freshly sliced, but if you want to bake them, I have some delicious recipes you can use. Try our Peach Crisp with some icecream, or our Peach Cobbler. If you feel like something cool you could try my Peach Slush! I also share how to bottle your peaches so you can enjoy fresh peaches all year round.
Freeze Fresh Peach Slices
Another favorite way to use up our leftover peaches is to simply slice them up and place them into an airtight freezer baggie and then freeze them. They are good for up to a few months in the freezer to be pulled out and enjoyed on oatmeal, cereal, French toast and more!
Ingredients Needed for Homemade Jam
You will need a few simple ingredients for this delicious peach jam recipe.
- Fresh Peaches
- Sugar
- Lemon Juice
- Pectin (I like Sure-Jell brand)
- butter (optional)
How to Make Peach Jam
To make the jam you will need to follow these steps carefully to ensure the jam turns out well.
- Peel the skin from your peaches by using the blanching method as explained above.

- Dice peaches into smaller pieces and place in a bowl. The bigger the pieces the bigger chunks of fruit you will have in your final product. So if you don’t like chunks you may want to mash up the pieces so they cook down more.

- Add the peaches to a large saucepan. Add the lemon juice and the pectin and stir together on high heat.
- Bring to a rolling boil.
- After the fruit mixture is boiling pour in the sugar and bring it to a rolling boil again while stirring constantly so the fruit doesn’t burn.
- Boil for one minute on high.
- Add a small pat of butter to the mixture to cut down the foam if it is really foamy. (optional but I like to do it)

- Remove from heat.
- Pour jam into clean, hot, disinfected canning jars. (I run my canning jars through a hot, sanitizing dishwasher load so they are hot and ready to go. Use a canning funnel for best results.
- Leave a 1/4 inch space at the top of the jar for proper sealing.

- Place the canning lid (that has been in a warm water bath on the stove) onto the jar with the magnet tool. Screw a canning ring onto the jar.
- Place the bottle of hot jam into a boiling water bath and boil for 15 minutes.

- Remove from the water bath and set on the counter top to seal. Leave sitting for at least 24 hours so the jam sets properly.

Can You Freeze Your Peach Jam
You can! Simply place the jar into your freezer for a lovely freezer jam. Be sure to leave a little extra space in the jar for the jam to expand.
How Long Does Jam Last
For best results use the opened jar of jam within 10 to 14 days. Sealed and unopened, your homemade should keep in the fridge between 1 to 3 months. In the freezer, it should last about a year.
