Create a New Year’s Eve Time Capsule as part of your New Year’s Party. A great way to document the year. Store moments and photos in the jars.
NEW YEAR’S EVE
I LOVE family traditions. We have several that have been carried from one generation to another one and we have some that have just recently become a family tradition. Today I want to share with you a new to us family tradition for New Year’s Eve….our very own New Year’s Eve Time Capsule. Ever since we had kids, our New Year’s Eve has consisted mostly of a Family Oriented New Year’s Eve Party, sometimes with extended Family depending on who is around, and sometimes just by our self.
The party usually consists of eating some of our favorite appetizers and a delicious soup and staying up till midnight playing games (like Roll Around the Clock or these Frozen Games), watching old home movies of our family, movie marathons and laughter. This year I created some fun themed New Year’s Eve Minute To Win It Games that you might want to check out for your own New Year’s Eve Celebration.
Add another element to your party and find a way to look back on the year and to welcome in the New Year and thought it would be fun to create a Time Capsule with our family.
TIME CAPSULE
I saw this lovely Time Capsule Jar from Kelli Rowe and thought it was just perfect. I decided to add some New Year’s Eve Questionnaires for each of us to fill out and answer some questions about things that happened during the year. Then we can line them up on the shelf so that we have a nice little display that holds some of our memories from the years.
We can start the jar for the New Year and set it on the shelf so that we can easily add ticket stubs, photos and little moments that we may gather throughout the coming year. Since I have given up on scrapbooking right now, this is a perfect solution for me to keep all of these little items organized as well. Then when I do get around to scrapbooking…I have them already organized by the year.
FAMILY TRADITIONS
I wish I would have started this years ago with the kids. It would have been fun to look back at their answers and their cute little handwriting. But starting now is better than never…right?! After the kids have filled out the questions, be sure to add them to your Time Capsule Jar so you can have them to look back at through the coming years.
I am also sharing these free New Years Eve Printables. Have the kids fill them out in their own handwriting and words (if they are old enough) and have them include a self portrait or add a picture of them while they play with some of these fun New Year’s Eve Photo Booth Props (which I will be updating here soon).

Include this Time Capsule Activity as part of the New Year’s Eve Countdown Activity Bags to help you count down the hours to the New Year.
I just love involving the kids in all of these fun activities and to see their own little personalities and see what their favorite moments were. Every year at Christmas we do something similar and send it out with our Christmas Cards and it is fun to see what the kids remember from the year.

I think that is a wonderful idea. I wish I had thought of that when my children were little. My daughter has had a time capsule for some time now. My husband and I sneak little pieces of paper with our favorite family moments in the jar as well. So when they open their time capsule we are part of their New Years celebration.
Great idea!! I love that! So fun to be able to be a part of it!!
Where did you find that perfect jar???
I found it at Target!
Love all of your ideas! Will enjoy them with my family this year! Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year to you!
Thank you for the ideas! I am having trouble getting the time capsule questions to print. I clicked on the picture, but it prints in two pages. I wasn’t sure if there was a link to a printable format?
I absolutely love this idea!! Wish I would have been doing it all these years!
Kristyn- It has been a fun tradition.
I’d love to go back & see what we stick inside throughout the years. Thanks for sharing this idea!
Natalie- It has been so fun looking back at the years.
