HOMEMADE CARAMEL
We recently made some delicious Homemade Caramel Sauce for a family get together that turned out so yummy! We served it over some Banana Splits and Ice Cream, which is always a good idea. I got this recipe from my friend Michelle and will be adding it to our Family Recipe Book!
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE CARAMEL
I have never made Homemade Caramel Sauce and have always just used the store bought caramel. I am not sure why I haven’t ever given it a try as I usually like to make things at home. It is so easy to make and just takes a few minutes and a few ingredients.
HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE
This Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe is so yummy, and so simple to make! It is perfect for apple dipping! Therefore, it needs to be made TODAY!
HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE
This Homemade Caramel Sauce is delicious, easy to make and better than store bought. Option to make it salted caramel too if you like Salted Caramel Sauce!
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 12 Tbs butter (unsalted), room temperature, cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp sea salt (optional, for salted caramel sauce)
Instructions
-
In a medium-large sauce pan, stir the sugar over medium-high heat until melted. Watch closely so it doesn’t burn.
-
Once sugar is melted, and right as the sugar turns amber in color, add the butter and whisk vigorously. It will bubble up a lot but this is normal, just keep whisking until all the butter has melted.
-
Remove pan from heat and slowly pour in the cream while whisking vigorously. Mixture will bubble again. Be sure to continue whisking until fully mixed in.
-
Immediately whisk in the vanilla and the sea salt (if making salted caramel sauce).
-
Set the sauce aside and allow to cool for 15 minutes, then pour into a glass jar to cool completely.
-
Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 weeks.
-
To reuse, simply heat the sauce pack up in a sauce pan over low heat or in the microwave at 5-10 second intervals, stirring in between each session.
Tip: Make sure when you make this to use a larger saucepan, as the caramel can bubble up quite a bit when you are making it and you don’t want your pan to be too small or the caramel will bubble over the sides of the pan.
CARAMEL
Serve it over some ice cream or sliced apples. You can use it for dipping or as a caramel sauce. If the caramel hardens, or to re-use it, simply melt it again on the stove top (on low heat) or in the microwave in 5-10 second intervals.
This is also a fun gift to give! Pour it into a pretty jar and glue some of these FREE Printable labels on the jar! To download the Printable Labels simply click on the link below.
