CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
I am obsessed with things in glass jars! I know you know that…because I always share things that are…well…in a jar! These Christmas Jars are perhaps my most favorite to date. There is just something so fun about creating a little Christmas Village in some pretty glass jars.
I have a few glass jars that I have floating around the house for various reasons. So I gathered them up and decided to turn them into a little Christmas Jar Village.
HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS VILLAGE JARS
SUPPLIES:
- GLASS JARS
- MINI BATTERY POWERED LIGHTS
- MINI CHRISTMAS HOUSES
- EPSOM SALTS
- MINI CHRISTMAS TREES
- MINI DEER
DIRECTIONS:
The snow is Epsom Salts that I layered into the bottom of the jars. Simply spread the Epsom Salts in the base of the jars and then fill the jars with little houses and Christmas Village items. I added some trees, cardboard houses, a snowman, a lamp post, and some deer.
WHAT JARS SHOULD I USE?
The great thing about this craft is you can make it however you would like! You can use the glass bell jars like I did or mason jars and vases work great too! You can also decide if you want to use the jars with or without lids. You can see in the pictures that I used a combination of both. Just use whatever you have for this DIY Christmas craft!
- Glass Bell Jars
- Mason Jars
- Vases
WHAT CAN I FILL THE JARS WITH?
Once you have the jar, the fun part is filling it! I included a list of various things you could include in your Christmas Jars. What will you fill your jar with?
- Houses
- Snow/snowflake
- Trees
- Lights
- Lamp Post
- Deer
- Santa
- Snowman
- Reindeer
- Candles
- Cookies
- Candy
- Treats
- Chocolates
- Candy canes
- Hot cocoa
- Wreaths
- Ribbon
- Glitter
- Fresh cranberries
- Pine
- Spices
In my bell glass jar, I added a string of battery powered mini LED lights (fairy lights). To hide the cord, I added some green garland.
Then strung some more battery powered mini lights under the garland to add some more lights around the glass jars. I have these on my mantle in the living room and I LOVE it!

I found some of the cardboard houses and Christmas Village items at Walmart and Michaels. The ones at Walmart are actually ornaments that I cut the hangers off of.
But these would also be fun as a centerpiece arrangement on the kitchen table or an end table if you only have a couple of jars.
Or you could spread them out in little areas in a couple different spots in your home!
Are Christmas jars something you would like as an addition to your holiday decor in your home? Where would you display them?
These Christmas jars would also make a great gift this holiday season!

This look so nice, thank you for sharing. I must try something like that myself :-)
I am so glad you like it! Thanks Paula!
So cute! When I made mine a couple of years ago, I did one for my son. I glued glitter to some tiny dinosaurs and put them in a jar with a tree and a snowman:). He loves it every year!
These are so beautiful!! I love this idea!! I am definitely going to be doing this this year!!
Thanks.
I found one cardboard house at Walmart. Did you have to add color and snow to the ones from Michaels? Love yours! Thanks!
These look beautiful! :) Any recommendations on where I can purchase glass jars like those without breaking the bank?
I saw very similar ones at Big Lots for around $4. Also Hobby Lobby probably wouldn’t be too bad either.
Thrift store near you! And Apacary (sp) jars!…
thrift store
I LOVE these, beautiful! I have been everywhere looking for these houses, Walmart, Michaels and every other store I can find. Can not find them any where.

I know JoAnn’s had some. Are you near a JoAnns?
Thanks so much. I will find one.
dollar tree /if you do not have one go on line
how does one get the bottom layer of stuff to stay put in the container so it does not move or fall out when tipped over ???
I made mine and I used the mini lights w/timer. Then I was able to put one of the lights in the Church Steeple and it would light up. I like the dome with lights under that. Beautiful mantel
Linda- Great idea!

I have a few glass jars but they aren’t as big as your’s, but I put antique ornaments in mine with some fake snow. I am going to try to put a couple mini ornaments inside with snow.
