Last week I shared with you some before pictures of the Dresser Makeover I was working on. It was an old thrift store find that we had used for several years in our daughter’s room. It was getting pretty beat up and needed a little extra something to add some color to her room.
My daughter really wanted a yellow dresser. We used Buttercup in a Satin finish from Glidden paint. We were able to narrow down our paint color choices by using Glidden Paint’s simplified color palette. We LOVE how the dresser turned out.
And, you probably noticed that we added some fun molding in this fun Honeycomb (Hexagon) shapes. I LOVE it! It added some colorful texture to her room. We are almost finished with her room and just need to add a couple of items to the white paneled wall above her dresser and possible a chair in that corner.
To make the Honeycomb Dresser, we simply took some small pieces of molding and cut them so that they fit the drawer faces and were evenly spaced. We were lucky because all of the drawers were the same size, which allowed for a nice symmetrical look. It also made it really easy because we simply had to figure out how to cut the very first hexagon and then used a template to cut all the other pieces of molding.
My husband is a mathematical genius and was able to figure out all the right angles. Thank goodness…I would have had to create some archaic system of cutting strips of paper to make a pattern until I got it just right…haha!
We glued each piece into place and let the drawers dry overnight. Then we filled the cracks with wood putty. When the putty had dried, we sanding them all down. Then I painted the dresser drawers and the dresser with two coats of paint.
The Hexagon shapes were a little bit time consuming, but the project was so worth it. I just love how it adds a pop of color and some fun texture to her room. Best of all, is that it is a one of a kind piece.
Do you have a project you want to get started on? Are you having a hard time deciding on which paint color to use? My Colortopia has some great tools to help you pick the right shades of each color so that you can pick the right paint color for you..the very first time.
