Indoor Herb Garden

Wow! I am blown away by your enthusiasm for the Silhouette giveaway…where have you been hiding? LOL! In a way though, I am not surprised as the Silhouette is an awesome machine. Today I want to share with you the first thing I made with my Silhouette.

I have been wanting to make a little herb garden so we could incorporate more fresh herbs in our recipes…and because I think they look really cute as kitchen decor. In a recent trip to our local Thrift Store, I found the perfect pots for some herbs. The individual pots even had a tiny hole in the bottom of each pot, but I was not crazy about the holly pattern.

I paid $1.50 for the set and was so excited to get home and spray paint this baby. I took a little sand paper to it to smooth some of the edges of the holly print and then spray painted them with my favorite white Krylon spray paint. I was going to plant seeds, but found some plants at my local nursery who was selling their herbs for 50% off. So I paid a total of $3 for fully grown herbs…SCORE!

Then I simply followed the step-by-step instructions on the Silhouette website and designed the words to use on each pot. Then I printed out the words on the black vinyl Silhouette provided with my Silhouette machine. It couldn’t have been easier.

Now, I have the perfect spot in my sunny kitchen window for my new indoor herb garden. I have to make the window sill a bit deeper to allow my herbs to sit in the window sill (as my window were designed in 1979…LOL), but I have a plan and will share that with you when it makes it’s way to the top of my “to-do” list :)!

The funny thing is that my husband was SUPER excited about this project. He makes a mean Spaghetti Sauce and can’t wait to make some using fresh herbs! See what a smart lady I am…that is one less meal that I have to make!

I love those! I would have never saw the potential for such uniquely designed pots. I'm so glad you did though because those look GREAT! I now want to go check out the second hand stores here and see what I can find!

LOVE these! I have been wanting fresh herbs all summer!

Those are cute! I have a question for you-I also have a silhouette and I really like it, but the black vinyl that came with mine is TERRIBLE! It is RIDICULOUSLY hard to get to stick onto ANYTHING! It ends up being a more frustrating process than worthwhile. Have you had that issue with the vinyl? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! :)

Darling, Amy…and yes! to the motivation for helping with dinnertime. An indoor herb garden is on my list for my new kitchen after we move.

I am glad you sprayed over the holly:)
We need to do this. We make mexican food all of the time and love the smell and taste of fresh cut cilantro. (Or as my 2 1/2 yr old calls it 'lantro)

Those pots are adorable! You've really helped me see things in a new light. So many times I've walked past "ugly" stuff at the thrift store, never realizing I had the power to make it cute! I'm starting to look at things with a new eye.

I need to be learn to look at things as "What they could be" rather then what they are!! You did a marvelous job on this project!
I am growing herbs for the first time and we are loving it! Cilantro is my favorite herb ever! But it is the one of 7 that I keep killing!

haha I love it! If you feel so inclined…maybe share that spaghetti sauce recipe?? unless it's a family secret :) And the pots look great! I love thrifting, but sometimes I forget to look at the potential and how easily the look of something can be changed with just a bit of paint :) nice work!

Would you believe my kitchen doesn't even have a window?! Lame, I know. These turned out darling. I've decided to work on living providently and this would be a great place to start! So easy.

Really simple and cute! My poor kitchen widow has no sill at all, otherwise it would have herbs in it too.

  15. 15

Sooo cool! :) My husband would get excited too!

Super cute idea Amy! If I could manage to keep a plant alive more than 24 hours I'd be tempted to try this myself.

Those before pictures of those babies were baaaaad! Great job. I have been thinking the same thing about getting some herbs for the sill. I haven't gotten there yet. But thanks for the reminder.

Looks awesome! Way to get in the spray painting mode–I've got a few spray paint projects I'm working on. I should do fresh herbs…

I`ve grown herbs indoors a few times, but they always developed small white flies. How can I avoid this?
