CHOCOLATE BALLS
I have one more DELICIOUS Christmas Candy Recipe to share with you! These Chocolate Dream Balls is one of my favorite homemade Candy Recipes from my childhood . My mom makes them every year for Christmas, along with my Grandmother’s Fudge, and Homemade Toffee.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE BALLS
These are so easy to make and are so good! The whole family enjoys them. They are light and fluffy with a little touch of chocolate. Adding nuts is totally optional. If you don’t like almonds, you can switch them out for your favorite nut, or leave them out all together.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 lb. of Hershey Chocolate Bars
- 1 12 oz. tub of Cool Whip
- ¼ cup Almonds, chopped
- 1-2 cups Nilla Wafers, finely crushed
DIRECTIONS:
- Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Melt it in 30 second intervals stirring between each so that it doesn’t burn.
- Fold in the Cool Whip gently.
- Add the almonds and fold together until mixed well.
- Place the mixture in the fridge or freezer and let harden. Should be at least 2 hours until the mixture is ready to handle.
- When the mixture is ready, crush your Nilla wafers into a fine powder using a rolling pin or in your food processor.
- Roll the chocolate mixture into 1 inch round balls and then roll the balls into your Nilla wafers.
- Set on wax paper and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Store in an air-tight container in the fridge. They will need to stay refrigerated or they will soften and flatten out.

I’m in Australia what is cool whip please and a substitute for it and also what other chocolate would I use?
Thankyou
Maybe Dream Whip would be a substitute for Cool Whip and any chocolate bar would work. Thanks.
Cool Whip is a “non-dairy” topping similar to whipped cream. It comes frozen in a small tub. (There is a powdered similar substance call Dream Whip, not sure if same company). If you google, you can find homemade substitutes that might have healthier ingredients than Cool Whip. Not sure those will work for this recipe. I was wondering that myself. I try to avoid CW because it is so artificial.
Not sure if it would work the same. Sorry. Thanks for the info.
Approximately how many chocolate bars for a pound is that?
There are 16 ounces in a pound. So you will have to add up the ounces on the chocolate bar to get to 16 ounces. Every chocolate bar is different in ounces so I can’t list an amount of chocolate bars. Any chocolate bar should work as long as it melts well.
Do you form the balls after you freeze the mixture?
Never mind I just watched the video and found my answer!
Oh good. Thanks.
What about making extra chocolately and rolling in crushed Famous Wafers? I’m going to try it.
Sounds delish!!!
These have been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. We called them mudballs, but “chocolate dream balls” definitely sounds more appetizing. Haha. They are so easy, and so addicting. I actually have tried them with whipping cream because I try to avoid Cool Whip. They don’t set up as well and they just aren’t the same. So for this recipe, Cool Whip is best!
