I hope you are not sick of these sugar scrubs! I am having a lot of fun experimenting with some different combinations. They make fun gifts and…well…its that time of year!

- Citrus Bliss Sugar Scrub Cubes
One of the best things about this gift is the potential for cute packaging…and you KNOW how much I love gifts in a jar! Jars just make everything cute. I get asked a lot about how I attach my bottle labels. I simply print them out on my laser printer (or you can print them at a copy shop) onto white cardstock. Then I cut them out and paste them onto the bottle with a simple glue stick. This works really well and is fast an easy! You can print them on sticker paper if you want, but I find that to be a lot more expensive.
Many of you have asked in the past about where I find my jars. So I thought I would share it here with all of you. I find a lot of cute bottles at Hobby Lobby and they have them on sale for half price a lot of the time. This particular jar was $1.50 on sale. I also LOVE using Starbucks Frappuccino Bottles too! Those are the ones I use most frequently and I am lucky to have a friend who gives me them when she is done with them.
SUGAR SCRUB INGREDIENTS
Chocolate Sugar Scrub
Make our amazing Chocolate Sugar Scrub for soft and smooth skin that smells amazing. Our DIY Sugar Scrub is so easy and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Raw Cane Sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa baking powder
- 1/4 cup Almond Oil Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- chocolate shavings from bakers chocolate square optional
- 2-3 drops Vitamin E oil optional
Instructions

Mix together the sugars and cocoa in a bowl. Slowly add the oil until you have your desired consistency.

I prefer mine to be drier than oily. But of course you can make it to your own liking.

Add the vanilla and Vitamin E if desired and stir all together until combined.

Store in an airtight jar or container.

Should last for up to 3 months.

Use as an exfoliator on any skin and scrub gently. Rinse with warm water.
Recipe Notes
*don't add more cocoa unless doubling...it will turn your skin brown ;) *If you want to spice it up you can add some orange, peppermint or cinnamon essential oils for a fun twist. I did not do that for this recipe.

I have a question: did you grate your own cocoa like the pic shows or did you use a baking cocoa like Hershey’s? I was thinking some unsweetened chocolate would be good grated because it would have the natural cocoa butter in it but that’s not how I read your recipe. I did make your Pumpkin Spice scrub, except that I used a chai spice mix that I found in a cookie recipe, and I LOVE it. I used a plastic Trader Joe’s Shortstack Syrup bottle and added more EVOO to use it as a scrub or just a scented oil for shaving. Thanks- I plan to use this idea for Christmas gifts for the girls in my family.
I added the cocoa baking powder and then just added some of the grated chocolate for the cocoa butter and the extra texture! What a great idea to use it for shaving. Might have to borrow that. And the chai spice sounds like a great addition!

Thanks Wendy! Oh shoot! I have seen jars at other craft stores. I just really like the prices at Hobby Lobby. You could check a thrift store for old jars or try mason jars. Those are always super cute and I have used them before and have pics of them in my earlier sugar scrubs if you want to see what they look like.
Baby food jars work great too! You can buy the applesauce or bananas use the food in a recipe and the jar for a scrub. Plus they are only like .60 each!

The sell corks in different sizes for jars. I picked some up at Hobby Lobby just the other day! Could that work?
Where can you buy essential oils for these scrubs (in Canada)? Or can you use something like an extract (as you would in cooking) for lemon/peppermint? How far in advance can these be made/how long do they hold for?
I don’t know about Canada specifically, but you can buy essential oils at stores like Whole Foods. They definitely have Peppermint Essential Oil there for about $10 US for 2 fl oz. If you have other natural food stores, check out the lotions and bath products area.
If you can’t find essential oils in a store near you, you can always try online (just make sure you get 100% essential oil that is therapeutic grade). I buy some of mine on Amazon and some at Sprouts grocery. :)

That wooden spoon actually comes with the bottle and I found it at Hobby Lobby! I have used the little kids toy spoons from IKEA as well! They are the perfect little size!

I don’t…but if I were going to make one…I would just make this chocolate scrub and then add in (guessing) about a tsp of fresh coffee grounds. Start by adding just a bit at a time and smelling and testing it to see how you like it. You can always add more and then see what you like. I bet it will smell great!

You can get the bottle and scoop at Hobby Lobby. They have them on 50% off about every other week. I couldn’t find a wooden scoop alone in any of the other craft stores. Good luck.

I’m going to attempt my first homemade sugar scrub (probably the chocolate) for gifts this year. I bought some Ball jelly jars, which aren’t all that exciting. What kind of label would you suggest to print your label on and what are some other ideas for the lid or a tag to make it more festive? Thank you!
I just print the label on white cardstock and then cut it out and glue it on with a glue stick. Works like a charm! You could always add some cute scrapbook paper on the top of the jar like I did on my lemon sugar scrub and paint the lids white or another fun color!

Hi Amy, I have a question about putting the scrubs in brand new mason jars. Since the jars come with the lid and screw ring separately do you know if you would have to seal the jar like you were canning something? Or could you just put the ring and the lid on without the jar being sealed all the way? I hope you know what I mean. I’ve been looking everywhere to find out if the lid and screw ring should be canning sealed or not to prevent bacteria.
Hey! I made this scrub as well as cinnamon vanilla for my friend as a gift, but I tried it out before and it’s great. It left my skin soft and smelling nice and sweet! Thanks for this tutorial. I used the chalkboard paper for the labels though, but it still looks great, the white chalk matches my white lids, hope my friend will like it too :-) thanks!

I’m not too sure, but if she didn’t really say anything in her previous mason jar sugar scrub recipes, then I guess you don’t need to seal it, just st screw it on. I hope this helps, but I could be wrong

Hi Amy. I came across this on Pinterest and it looks amazing! My question is this: you say it lasts up to 3 months. I’ve bought scrubs that lasted forever. I’m assuming that if I add a preservative, it will increase the shelf life significantly. Have you used one before, and if so, how long did your scrub (or other recipe) last before you had to pitch it? I’m planning on making some for my friends. They’re super busy moms who don’t always have time to pamper themselves. Just want to make it last as long as possible so they actually have a chance to enjoy it!
