Looking for a homemade shaving cream that nourishes and protects sensitive skin while helping you get a good, close shave. Say goodbye to dry, itchy skin with our DIY Shaving Cream. Easy Shaving Cream Recipe.
HOMEMADE SHAVING CREAM
Looking for a unique and different Father’s Day Gift can be difficult. This year I decided to try my hand at making some homemade Shaving Cream for the husband. As many of you know, we have been using DoTerra Essential Oils at our house and have been finding so many great uses for them. Also, with my many food allergies, we have been slowly eliminating processed foods and chemicals…so I thought it would be fun to give DIY Shaving Cream a try. If the hubby didn’t LOVE it, I could use it to shave my own legs!
DIY SHAVING CREAM
Well, it turns that that Shaving Cream is really super easy to make and it works and smells great! I did test it out on myself because it was going to be a surprise for him. It really works and my skin really did feel super soft and smooth afterwards. I think I might just switch over to homemade Shaving Cream because it really was that easy. I also know exactly what is in it…nothing chemical or with preservatives.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE SHAVING CREAM

Shaving Cream Recipe
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup Shea Butter
- 2/3 Coconut Oil
- 1/4 cup Olive Oil
- 10-20 drops of your favorite DoTerra Essential Oils
- 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda
- 6 drops of vitamin E optional
Instructions
-
Melt Shea Butter and Coconut Oil in a double boiler.
-
Mix in Olive Oil and your doTerra and stir together.
-
Stir in the Baking Soda and then set in the fridge until it cools and hardens (usually a couple of hours).
-
When hardened mix up with a mixer until smooth and creamy.
-
Transfer to an airtight container. Should last for up to 3 months.
SHAVING CREAM LABELS
I also made some shaving cream labels to go onto your container or the container lid. They are 3 inches in diameter. They should fit most regular plastic container lids as it is a pretty standard size. I picked up this container at Hobby Lobby, but you should be able to find similar ones at your own craft store.
Then all you will need to do is print out the labels on white card stock (or even regular computer paper). I like to make sure and print them with a laser printer or have them copied onto paper with a copier so that the ink does not run on the label…especially if you will be using around water, which is usually the case when shaving.
Then simply cut the label out with a 3 inch paper punch (or scissors) and glue the label onto the lid with a simple glue stick. It works so well and the labels stay on just like a real label. Then you can wash off the label and reuse the containers.

He is a old fashioned shaver, so he will love it.
Thanks!
Iren
I hope he loves it!
This sounds great! What oils did you use?
I used Sandalwood this time. But a lavender or other soothing oil would be great as well!
LOVE this! Thank you. :)
Thanks friend! xo
I thank you for sharing this shave cream recipe. I will make this for my son but not for awhile. I have been so busyI know he will love it though. I may make some for myself also.
Love this recipe and the instrux on labels. Can you tell me the source of your jars? I need something plastic for sure, since it’ll be used in the bathroom!
I found my containers at Hobby Lobby.
I tried to open the link to the labels for the shaving cream and sugar scrub but it didn’t work, is the link still working?
I have a doubt. So, when we mix the coconut oil, is there any specific coconut oil that we are supposed to use? I stay in India, and its very hot out here and the coconut oil makes all the recipes very oily which doesn’t work that well. Any suggestions.
Try using a different oil like a almond oil or a very light olive oil.
I have had irritation from using homemade deodorants with baking soda and I’m concerned this will do the same…what is the purpose of the baking soda in the shaving cream? Can I substitute it with something else?
Thank you :-)
You can leave it out. It helps with the razor getting a good grip and with the lather.
Where did you find the shave cream brush and old fashioned razor?
The razor is one my husband has used for a long time and just replaces the blades. I think he got it from COSTCO…but it has been at least 5 years or so. I picked up the brush at a drug store (I think Walgreen’s). Hope that helps!
Does the razor become clogged from the oils in the cream? Or does it rinse off nicely like store bought creams?
What is the purpose of the essential oil? Is it simply for scent? I’m trying to make a last minute gift and need to find something local, rather than ordering, any ideas? Thanks!
I can’t wIt to make this For my husband! How long does it good for?
Sorry for the question and how I wrote it. I’m using my phone. But I found it. 3 months
Have you had any issues with your drains and using this? Since the Coconut oil solidifies, I’m always worried that my drains will suffer from it. Just curious…
mine doesn’t lather. What did I do wrong?
Where did you buy the shea butter?
The vitamin shoppe
Hi Amy,
Would it be fine to replace Olive Oil with Jojoba and/or Almond Oil?
Also is baking soda fine for sensitive/acne prone skin?
Thanks,
Mark
This is awesome! We have been slowly removing chemicals from our life…this specific recipe, how much does it result in. Wanting to make for a few people and need to know final amount so I know how much to multiply the amounts by…Thank you
My shaving cream did not whip up. What did I do wrong? Is it the shea butter? I bought mine at Walmart I bought a bar of “raw Shea butter soap”. Thx
Thank you for this recipe! I use it all the time and have given it as gifts. People have asked me for more, it’s that good! I love how good and soft my legs feel after I use it. It’s the best!
So happy that you are enjoying the shaving cream! Thank you so much!
Never thought of printing my oil label like that! It looks so professional when labeled like that. Thanks for sharing this idea!
