Looking for Girl’s Room Decor to create a room she will love? Create this DIY Wood Sign for the perfect addition to your daughter’s room. She will love it as much as you do!

GIRLS ROOM DECOR
I wanted to have a quote that my daughter would read and see everyday. I just love how empowering this quote is for girls and how it focuses on being beautiful from the inside out.

I feel like in today’s world girls are being constantly bombarded with messages that can truly hurt them and their self esteem. A woman is more than her looks and her clothing size. Social media can be very tough on young girls and women who expect everyone to look like the air-brushed, computer generated women who spend a lot of money on hairstylists, make-up artists, plastic surgeons and more to create a beauty standard that is impossible to achieve. We can teach our girls how to value the right things and make them feel loved and special for who they are without all the modifications.

Anyways, I believe surrounding our daughter’s with positive role models and healthy relationships, we can counteract the negative culture that exists today.

WOOD SIGN DETAILS
I made this sign using my Cricut maker to cut the vinyl letters and used it like a stencil to paint onto the wood. If you would like to see how I make my wood signs, you can check out this tutorial to give you the exact directions (it is for a wood flag sign), but you can simply cut the wood (and wood frame) to meet the dimensions of the sign size you want and then all the other steps are the same.

I had to cut the words into 4 different sections because the sign is so large. I wasn’t able to cut it all in one mat (12×24) on my Cricut Maker. So I broke up the word cut file into 4 different pieces to be able to cut out the vinyl. Then I pieced them and measured them to fit onto the sign so that they lined up with one another. I had to have another set of hands and eyes for this job and my husband is always willing to help me out with my crazy projects!

I just LOVE how it turned out…don’t you? My daughter has loved it too! In fact, she wanted to take it to her new college dorm…did I mention she just moved out this week to attend college…(#tears)…but they don’t allow you to hang anything on the walls with nails and this sign is a bit too heavy for some command strips :). I think I will make her a poster version that she can hang up instead!

MAKE A CUT FILE (SVG)
Want to make one for your home to add a sweet bit of girl’s room decor? I have provided the original photo file here. You can use that to create a photo to print in a large size at your local print shop, or you can convert that file into a cut file (svg) to cut on your Cricut or Silhoutte (or vinyl) machine.
DIRECTIONS:
- Grab the original photo file here.
- Download the file to your computer.
- Go to this online file converter and convert the .png file to a .svg file and download that to your computer.
- Upload the .svg file to your computer software for your Silhouette or Cricut machine, etc.
- Cut the vinyl. Break into 4 pieces (or whatever size you need to) for you cutting machine to cut.
HOW TO CREATE WOOD SIGN
The finished sign measures 51×26 inches (including the wood frame). The piece of wood used to make the sign measures 49×24 inches.
DIRECTIONS:
- Use this tutorial to actually create the wood sign.
- Then use the vinyl to create a stencil.
- Line up the words so they fit in line and in order on the wood.
- Paint with a stencil brush or sponge with black paint (or paint color of your choice).
- Let dry and add a picture hanger to the back of the sign.
- Enjoy!
Let me know if you end up making one! I love to see what you are creating too!
xoxo
