WHAT DOES THE MUSHROOM SYMBOLIZE?
Throughout time many cultures, have connected mushrooms with new beginnings, good health, and good luck. They have also been associated with prosperity and growth as they usually begin in dark, damp areas and yet are able to grow…becoming a metaphor of having the ability to find positive light in dark and difficult times. Mushrooms have also been used in a lot of popular culture.
WHY IS MUSHROOM DECOR SO POPULAR?
Mushrooms have always been popular but have made a sudden resurgence of popularity due to the recent release of the popular blockbuster movie Super Mario Brothers based on Nintendo’s video game franchise.
WHERE CAN I DISPLAY MUSHROOM DECOR?
I love the idea of displaying these adorable mushrooms in small areas throughout your home. I think they would be so fun displayed in a nursery or a kids room. You could also display them on a book shelf with some fun children’s fairy tale books. Display them in your kitchen hutch or on your windowsill next to your favorite live plant!

HOW TO MAKE THESE WOODEN MUSHROOMS
So easy to make, these cute wooden mushrooms can be painted with some cute colors of craft paint in your favorite colors. I decided toad some painted hearts to mine to display with my other valentines day decorations. But if you want to keep them out year round, that is fun too!
- Take your wooden mushrooms and set them out on newspaper or something you can paint them on.
- Paint each of the mushroom tops the color you desire.
- I chose not to paint the mushroomstem. But you can paint them if you want. You could also use a stain on them if you wanted them to be a more natural mushroom you would find out in nature.
- Let the paint dry.
- Add a second coat of paint.
- Let the paint dry.
- Add some fun hearts or polka dots, etc.
- To make the hearts I actually just used the end of my paint brush and added a small dot of paint and then moved the brush handle down to draw some paint with it to make the bottom of the heart. Do that on each side of the heart and join the two downward streaks of paint into a heart shape.
Check out my instagram reel where I show you exactly how I painted the small hearts on the top of the mushrooms here.
I would love for you to share with me if you end up making some of these DIY mushroom decorations! I think they would be a great additions to your home decor!
